Job summary

JD Gyms is seeking an Assistant General Manager for its Bradford club. You will work with the General Manager to drive daily operations, develop staff, and help meet membership and commercial goals.

The role requires engaging leadership, exceptional service, and a focus on safety and quality in a fast‑growing gym chain. You will be responsible for coaching a team of Fitness Coaches and General Assistants, delivering first‑class member experiences, and upholding brand standards across the club.

Qualifications

• Experience leading and developing colleagues within a leisure, fitness, hospitality or customer-focused environment.
• Demonstrates a strong commitment to delivering excellent member service.
• Be an effective leader with the ability to support, coach and develop colleagues.
• Must be qualified to at least Level 2 Gym Instructor.
• Experience contributing to membership growth, commercial performance and achieving business objectives and coordinating local marketing activity as well as recruiting and managing a successful team.
• Experience supporting operational delivery, people leadership and commercial performance within a leisure or customer-focused environment.

Responsibilities

• Ensure adherence to Health and Safety Employee Policy and Company Procedures Handbook.
• Maintain JD Gyms Brand Standard.
• Carry out safety checks and report defects to keep facilities safe.
• Recruit and manage Fitness Coaches and General Assistants for daily operations.
• Hold regular team meetings to aid development and keep staff updated.
• Support achievement of membership, revenue and commercial targets.
• Drive secondary spending revenue and ensure high cleanliness standards.
• Supervise weekly banking to minimize wastage and maximise profit.
• Ensure uniform standards across the team and outstanding member service.
• Create a positive working environment and represent JD Gyms values.

Role overview

As an Assistant General Manager, you will play a key role in supporting the successful day-to-day operation of the club. Working closely with the General Manager, you will help maintain high operational standards, support colleague development and contribute to achieving membership and commercial objectives. Through effective leadership, coaching and collaboration, you will help create a positive environment for colleagues and members, ensuring the club delivers exceptional experiences, strong operational performance and a safe, welcoming environment for all.

Responsibilities

• Ensure that all policies and procedures in both the Health and Safety Employee Policy and Company Procedures Handbook are adhered to.
• Responsible for adhering to and maintaining the JD Gyms Brand Standard.
• Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly safety checks. Report and chase all defects, to ensure the building and its equipment is safe to use.
• Recruit and manage a team of employed Fitness Coaches and General Assistants to ensure the club is operational cover to ensure daily expectations are delivered.
• Hold regular team meetings to aid development and keep everyone updated.
• Support the achievement of membership, revenue and commercial targets.
• To drive and maximise secondary spending revenue.
• To ensure the whole of the gym facility is of the highest standard of cleanliness.
• Ensure the in-house cleaners (General Assistant) are cleaning to the highest standard. To manage the weekly banking process so that wastage and variance is minimal, maximising profit.
• To ensure uniform standards are being adhered to by all team members and yourself.
• Deliver outstanding member service through positive and professional interactions.
• Help create a positive, supportive and engaging working environment for colleagues.
• Represent JD Gyms values and standards in all interactions with members and colleagues.
