Job summary

Alexander Daniels are partnering with a growing business in the West Midlands to recruit an Assistant Finance Manager. Reporting into the Finance Manager, you will play a key role in day-to-day financial operations, supporting accurate reporting and driving improvements across finance processes.

Produce monthly management accounts, reconcile cash and bank postings, support payroll and VAT, and contribute to year-end audit preparation while maintaining strong internal controls.

Qualifications

• Experience in a similar finance role at Assistant Finance Manager level.
• Strong understanding of management accounts preparation and ledger processes.
• AAT Level 3 desirable; part-qualified or qualified by experience considered.
• Confident user of Excel and finance systems; Sage advantageous.
• Highly organised with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-finance stakeholders.
• Proactive, self-motivated and able to manage workload effectively.

Responsibilities

• Produce monthly management accounts, ensuring journals, accruals and prepayments are completed accurately and on schedule.
• Reconcile bank accounts regularly and maintain strong control over cash movements.
• Process and record financial transactions, including daily cashbook and bank postings.
• Support cashflow processes through reconciliation activities and variance investigation.
• Prepare payment runs and supplier reconciliations in line with internal controls.
• Assist in payroll information preparation for review.
• Contribute to VAT returns and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Provide insight into debtor and creditor balances, highlighting trends and risks.
• Work with operational teams to support reporting needs and identify efficiency opportunities.
• Support month-end processes across sales and purchase ledgers.
• Assist with year-end audit preparation and liaise with external auditors.
