Job summary

Aldwych Consulting is seeking an Assistant Estimator in London to support the pre-construction team with cost estimates, tender submissions and value engineering. The role offers progression into estimating across major projects and requires a practical construction background.

The successful candidate will review drawings and documentation, perform take-offs, obtain quotes from subcontractors and assist with pricing of materials, labour and equipment.

Qualifications

• Experience in construction, from site-based or commercial background.
• Background as Assistant QS/Site Engineer/Site Manager is beneficial.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
• Strong numerical and organisational skills; keen on estimating career.

Assistant Estimator

Location: London
Salary: £35,000-£50,000 (dependent on experience)

I'm currently working with a leading specialist construction contractor who is looking to recruit an Assistant Estimator to join their growing Pre-Construction team.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to move into estimating from either a site-based or commercial background, with the chance to develop their skills within a specialist construction environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist with preparing cost estimates and tender submissions.

• Review drawings, specifications and tender documentation.

• Carry out quantity take-offs and measurements.

• Obtain and review subcontractor and supplier quotations.

• Assist with pricing materials, labour, plant and equipment.

• Support the preparation of bills of quantities.

• Liaise with site teams, suppliers and subcontractors.

• Work alongside Senior Estimators throughout the tender process.

Requirements:

• Experience within construction, ideally from a site-based or commercial background.

• Previous experience as an Assistant Quantity Surveyor, Quantity Surveyor, Site Engineer or Site Manager would be beneficial.

• Good understanding of construction methods and processes.

• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.

• Strong numerical and organisational skills.

• A genuine interest in developing a career within estimating.
