We have an exciting opportunity fora registered Consultant in Public Health/Public Health Medicine to join the leadership team of the Department of Public Health – driving the approach to improving health equity across the city.The Assistant Director of Public Healthwill have aspecific portfolio of responsibility for Health Improvement and Health Creation,as well as providing leadership for the department andpromoting health equity across all the domains of public health and life course areas.
The Health Improvement and Health Creation Portfolio
This role will focus on “upstream” prevention – working with partners to tackle the social determinants of health inequalitiesas well as leading life course specific workstreams for children and young people, and older people. Making Manchester Fairer (MMF) is the city’s plan to improve health equity with a strong focus on the impact of poverty, housing, work, and the environment as well as racism and discrimination – recognising that a significantof Manchester’s diverse populationdon’t have the same opportunities to be healthy and well or to reach their full potential. The Assistant Director with this portfoliowill support the DPH in leading the MMF programme and, importantly, the integrated Anti-Poverty Strategy. They will have a key role in ensuring that community voice and place-based approaches are at the heart of what we do.
