Job summary

Hilton in London is seeking an Assistant Chief Engineer to oversee building maintenance and lead a high-performing team, ensuring safety, reliability and guest satisfaction across all engineering operations.

You will support the Chief Engineer with daily duties, manage maintenance workflows, and drive energy efficiency initiatives while upholding Hilton’s standards of hospitality and service.

Qualifications

• Experience in building and facilities maintenance management is a plus.
• Strong leadership and people management skills.
• Commitment to safety and compliance with relevant regulations.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a high-performing maintenance team, including recruiting, training, and performance evaluations.
• Assist Chief Engineer with daily maintenance operations, prioritising tasks and ensuring timely completion of service requests and emergencies.
• Oversee safety, reliability, and compliance of building systems (mechanical, electrical, HVAC, life safety) and coordinate inspections.
• Monitor key KPIs and drive improvements in equipment upkeep and team productivity.
• Coordinate with hotel leadership on safety procedures and shift coverage.
• Supervise external contractors and ensure quality of work and adherence to standards.
• Lead energy efficiency initiatives to reduce utility costs.

Responsibilities

Here’s what you’ll do during a typical day:

• Lead and develop a high-performing team: Recruit, train, supervise, and mentor team members; conduct performance evaluations, provide professional development opportunities, and recognise achievements to build a motivated and high-performing team
• Assist Chief Engineer with managing daily maintenance operations: Oversee maintenance activities, prioritize tasks, and verify completion through the property maintenance management system; ensure timely resolution of service requests, guest concerns, and emergencies
• Ensure safety and compliance: Oversee the maintenance of the physical building, mechanical systems, electrical systems, HVAC, and life safety systems, coordinate inspections, and uphold safety and compliance standards in line with national and local regulations
• Assist Chief Engineer with driving engineering performance: Monitor departmental Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), including equipment upkeep, audit results, and team productivity and act as need to improve performance
• Support hotel-wide operational leadership: Collaborate with the broader hotel leadership team in overseeing evacuation procedures, duty manager coverage, and other safety protocols as needed
• Oversee contractor work: Supervise external contractors and inspect completed work for quality and compliance
• Lead energy efficiency initiatives: Support and oversee property-wide energy conservation programs to reduce utility costs

Please note that this is a fixed-term contract.
