Job summary

The Gambling Commission is seeking an Assistant Casework Investigator in a hybrid role based near Birmingham. You will support investigators on complex criminal and regulatory cases within the Enforcement and Intelligence Programme, collaborating with National Lottery and Legal teams.

The role emphasizes confidentiality, multi‑team support, and preparation of files for regulatory panels and criminal proceedings. Strong IT skills, planning and organisational abilities are essential.

Qualifications

• Ability to learn quickly and think laterally to ensure smooth workflow.
• Excellent planning and organisational skills with the ability to manage priorities.
• Good working knowledge of Word, Excel, Outlook and IT competency to use other databases and bespoke systems.

Responsibilities

• Safeguarding confidentiality at all times due to access to highly confidential and sensitive information.
• Facilitating and supporting case teams in progressing multiple cases to the required standard and deadlines.
• Coordinating and assisting in the delivery of regulatory and criminal cases.
• Maintaining equipment and logistical assistance.
• Preparing files for regulatory panels, criminal cases and Commissioner steers.
• Maintaining databases and case management tools.
• Drafting correspondence, reports and updates.
• Attending meetings and interviews.
• Collating, analysing and presenting information in line with the policies and procedures of the Commission.
• Providing initial research into cases to the required evidential standard.
• Building effective and collaborative working relationships across the Commission to ensure that targets and deadlines are met.

Salary: £27,517 per annum

The Role

This role is to support investigators on complex criminal and regulatory cases. You will be part of an investigation team and work closely with members of the Enforcement and Intelligence Programme of the Gambling Commission. You will also work closely with members of the National Lottery and Legal teams.

Essential Criteria

What we’re looking for:

• Experience of working in a dynamic environment providing support to multiple teams simultaneously.
• Ability to learn quickly and to think laterally and anticipate responses or actions to ensure smooth workflow and follow up with colleagues.
• Excellent planning and organisational skills with the ability to recognise and manage priorities.
• Good working knowledge of Word, Excel, Outlook and IT competency to use other databases and bespoke systems.

Desirable Criteria

• Working in an operational environment.
• Good working knowledge of regulatory environments/operations.
• Proven analytical skills with ability to summarise and communicate complex information and identify key points.
• Previous experience working to tight deadlines and targets and managing a demanding administrative workload.

The selection process for this vacancy will comprise two short tests to assess your IT skills and an in-person interview consisting of competency and technical questions.
