Job summary

Birmingham Children's Trust is seeking an Assistant Care Manager to join our residential childcare team. You will support children and young people to thrive in a safe, structured environment, overseeing personalised care plans and facilitating their voices to be heard.

You will audit case files, supervise staff, and work with families, schools and professionals to promote positive outcomes. Candidates must be able to work shifts, weekends, and bank holidays, and undergo DBS/background checks.

Qualifications

  • Qualification in Children and Young People (NVQ Level 3 or equivalent).
  • Proven ability to handle complex behaviours and emotionally challenging situations.
  • Experience managing staff in residential childcare (essential).
  • Skilled in communication (including use of visual/adaptive aids).
  • Knowledge of care legislation and quality standards.
  • Commitment to equal opportunities and anti-discriminatory practices.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a wide network of professionals.
  • Available for shift work, weekends and public holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Support children and young people to thrive in a safe, nurturing environment.
  • Oversee and implement personalised care plans reflecting individual needs, preferences and goals.
  • Conduct case file audits and supervision to empower staff while supporting deputy/registered managers.
  • Collaborate with parents, schools, social workers and other professionals to promote consistency and positive outcomes.
  • Assist with everyday life skills development and meaningful activities tailored to each child.
