Job summary

Birmingham Children’s Trust is seeking an Assistant Care Manager to support children and young people in a safe, nurturing environment. You will oversee personalised care plans, conduct audits and supervise staff while supporting Deputy Managers and the Registered Team Manager to achieve shared goals.

You will collaborate with parents, schools, social workers and other professionals to promote consistent outcomes and empower children in everyday life skills and meaningful activities.

Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 3 in Children and Young People or equivalent.
  • Experience managing staff and working in residential childcare.
  • Ability to handle complex behaviours and emotionally challenging situations.
  • Skilled in communication, including use of visual and adaptive aids.
  • Knowledge of care legislation and quality standards.
  • Commitment to equal opportunities and anti-discriminatory practices.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a wide network of professionals.
  • Available for shift work, weekends and public holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and implement personalised care plans reflecting each child’s needs, preferences and goals.
  • Conduct case file audits and supervise staff to achieve shared goals.
  • Support Deputy Managers and Registered Team Manager in daily operations.
  • Promote consistency through collaboration with parents, schools, social workers and other professionals.
  • Encourage independence by supporting life skills and meaningful activities tailored to each child.
  • Work in a 24-hour Children’s Home environment, including shift work and weekends/bank holidays.
