Job summary

Jewson in Bolton is seeking an Assistant Branch Manager to support daily operations, drive sales and coach a team in a busy building materials branch. This full-time role runs Monday to Friday 07:00–16:30 with every other Saturday 08:00–12:00, providing a stable, customer-focused environment.

You’ll build strong supplier and customer relationships, monitor stock and margins, and deputise for the Branch Manager when needed while upholding health and safety standards.

Qualifications

• Essential industry knowledge within building materials sector.
• Experience in leading, coaching and developing a team.
• Strong commercial awareness and ability to drive sales and profitability.
• Excellent customer service and relationship-building skills.
• Good IT skills and the ability to understand financial and performance targets.
• Confident, resilient approach to problem-solving and managing challenging situations.
• A full, valid driving licence.
• GCSEs in Maths and English; people management experience; forklift licence advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Support the Branch Manager to drive sales, profitability and branch performance.
• Lead, coach and develop a team to deliver excellent customer service.
• Build strong relationships with customers and suppliers; win new business.
• Monitor sales, margins, stock levels and branch performance against targets.
• Maintain high standards of health and safety, compliance and stock management.
• Understand the local market and identify opportunities to grow sales and performance.
• Deputise for the Branch Manager when required.
