Job description

Robertson Bell are supporting a small but vibrant not-for-profit organisation based in Abingdon, to recruit an interim Assistant Accountant to cover a period of nine-month maternity leave.

This is an office-based role, with the potential flexibility to work from home one day per week, or four days in total – if required.

The Assistant Accountant will be responsible for:

  • Running month-end accounting processes with a particular focus on the accuracy of accruals, prepayments & journals.
  • Financially managing local authority grant funding, including the administrative work surrounding this.
  • Making adjustments to the organisation’s payroll (not processing).
  • Overseeing revenue and billing income.
  • Supporting VAT compliance.

Essential experience includes:

  • Running a tight month end process, ensuring finance information is accurate and uploaded to the system in a timely fashion.
  • Ensuring the accuracy of payroll information and overseeing the organisations receivables ledger.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Intermediate Excel skills and the ability to handle spreadsheets.
  • Experience with VAT and in the not-for-profit sector are both preferrable but not essential.
