Job summary

MacKenzie King is recruiting an Assistant Accountant in Ipswich to take ownership of finance duties and support the efficient daily running of the finance function.

You will assist with accounts functions, primarily purchase ledger and weekly payroll, while developing your career with study toward AAT/ACCA/CIMA. A proactive, communicative approach is essential in this role.

This position offers hands-on exposure to month-end processes, supplier payments, and reporting to help the team thrive.

Responsibilities

• Assist with overseeing the accounts function, mainly purchase ledger and weekly payroll.
• Monitor and manage the accounts email, actioning items promptly.
• Answer incoming telephone calls and handle queries.
• Support month-end processes, reconciliations and forecasts.
• Oversee the purchase ledger function and supervise the accounts assistant.
• Import payments to the bank and process supplier invoices.
• Verify and process weekly supplier payment runs.
• Administer weekly payroll from start to finish.
• Set up new employees and ensure paperwork is received.
• Verify overtime and bonuses.
• Prepare weekly sub-contract profit reporting.
• Participate in ad hoc accounts and administration projects.

MacKenzie King are excited to be recruiting an Assistant Accountant for an increasingly successful and supportive business, based in Ipswich. As an Assistant Accountant you will take ownership of finance duties and support the overall efficient daily running of the finance function.

Key tasks and responsibilities

• Assisting with overseeing the accounts function predominantly purchase ledger and weekly payroll functions
• Monitoring & maintenance of accounts email, ensuring all items are actioned or passed on appropriately and promptly
• Answering incoming telephone calls
• Dealing with internal & external queries promptly
• Month end processes, reconciliations, forecasts & management accounts
• Overall management of the purchase ledger function
• Overseeing the accounts assistant on purchase ledger duties
• Importing payments to the bank
• Processing & checking purchase ledger invoices on verify
• Liaising with suppliers and management to resolve any queries
• Processing weekly, & monthly supplier payment runs ready for payment
• Payroll weekly start to finish process
• Setting up new employees, ensuring all relevant paperwork has been received, and monitoring
• Verify overtime & bonuses
• Weekly sub-contract profit reporting
• Ad hoc accounts & administration projects and duties as required

Qualifications and experience
