Job summary

Heap & Co in Cambridge is seeking an Assistant Accountant to join a growing finance team in a varied, hands-on role delivering month-end support and maintaining accurate records.

You will work closely with senior finance leadership, handle ledgers, reconciliations, VAT returns and budgeting, with exposure to management accounting and financial reporting.

Qualifications

• Previous experience within an accounts or finance role.
• Strong understanding of double-entry bookkeeping.
• Experience with reconciliations and month-end activities.
• Good Excel skills.
• Experience using accounting software.
• Studying AAT or actively developing an accounting career would be advantageous.
• Organised, proactive and keen to learn.

Responsibilities

• Assisting with the preparation of monthly management accounts.
• Maintaining purchase and sales ledgers.
• Performing balance sheet and ledger reconciliations.
• Reconciling supplier statements and resolving queries.
• Supporting payment runs and cash management activities.
• Managing company credit card and expense reconciliations.
• Preparing VAT returns and ensuring compliance with deadlines.
• Assisting with budgeting, forecasting and year-end processes.
• Producing financial reports and analysis as required.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Accountant to join a growing finance team in a varied and hands‑on role.

Working closely with senior finance leadership, you'll play a key role in supporting month‑end processes, maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring the smooth running of day‑to‑day finance operations.
