Job summary

STORMX RECRUITMENT LIMITED near Hitchin is seeking an Assistant Accountant to manage day-to-day finances for a group of creative and music-focused businesses. Hybrid working is available, with 3 days in the Whitwell office and occasional travel to London.

The role offers £32,000–£35,000 per annum in a permanent, full-time capacity. The ideal candidate may be studying AAT or ACCA (or QBE) and have some bookkeeping experience.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Managing day-to-day bookkeeping for a group of businesses.

Assistant Accountant

Near Hitchin Hybrid Working

Permanent role - full time (slightly reduced hours considered)

About the Role

We are working with a small but growing accountancy practice near Hitchin that is looking to hire an Assistant Accountant to take ownership of the day-to-day finances for a group of creative and music-focused businesses.

This is a fantastic hands-on opportunity for someone who enjoys variety and working closely with exciting clients in the creative sector. If you have a passion for music and festivals, that's a big plus.

The role could work well for someone studying or qualified AAT or studying towards ACCA. You could also be qualified by experience.

What You'll Be Doing

• Managing the day-to-day bookkeeping for a group of businesses
• Handling accounts payable and receivable
• Bank reconciliations and maintaining accurate financial records
• Ticket account reconciliations
• Preparing and submitting VAT returns
• Payroll processing
• Assisting with month-end processes and reporting
• Liaising directly with clients and stakeholders
• Supporting year-end preparation and working closely with Fractional FD
• Identifying opportunities to improve processes and efficiency

About You

• Good academics, potentially studying AAT or ACCA/ QBE
• Previous experience in a bookkeeping/accounts assistant or assistant account role.
• Strong understanding of day-to-day accounting processes
• Comfortable managing multiple entities or clients
• Proficient in accounting software (e.g. Xero or similar)
• Highly organised with strong attention to detail
• Confident communicator with a proactive approach

Working Pattern & Location

• Based in Whitwell, near Hitchin - 3 days in office (rural, must be a driver)
• Hybrid working available
• Approx. 2 days per month in clients London office
