Job summary

Banbury-based global engineering manufacturer is hiring an Assistant Accountant to join the finance team. This is a newly created role to support the Finance Manager as the business grows, with an office-based setup.

The role offers £33,000 to £38,000 plus up to 5% discretionary bonus, early finish on Fridays, and 25 days holiday. The candidate will handle month-end tasks, multi-currency transactions, intercompany reconciliations, VAT returns, forecasting and audits.

Qualifications

• Around 5 years' experience in an accounting or finance role.
• Strong understanding of double-entry bookkeeping.
• Experience with multi-currency transactions and intercompany reconciliations.
• Confident Excel skills, including VLOOKUPs and pivot tables.
• AAT Level 3 or 4, or qualified by experience.

Responsibilities

• Support month end close to tight group reporting deadlines.
• Process multi-currency transactions, journals and revaluations.
• Manage intercompany transactions and reconciliations.
• Prepare the monthly VAT return.
• Support forecasting, budgeting and performance reporting.
• Assist with internal and external audits.
• Review employee expenses against policy.
• Provide cover for purchase and sales ledger when needed.

Assistant Accountant

Banbury | £33,000 to £38,000 + up to 5% bonus | Office based | Permanent

Looking for a hands‑on accounting role where no two days are the same? Our client, a well-established global engineering manufacturer based in Banbury, is looking for an Assistant Accountant to join finance team. This is a newly created role, brought in to support the Finance Manager as the business continues to grow.

The Asiistant Accountant role

• Supporting month end close to tight group reporting deadlines, including accruals, prepayments, fixed assets and balance sheet reconciliations
• Processing multi-currency transactions, journals and revaluations
• Managing intercompany transactions and reconciliations
• Preparing the monthly VAT return
• Supporting forecasting, budgeting and performance reporting
• Assisting with internal and external audits
• Reviewing employee expenses against company policy
• Providing cover for purchase and sales ledger when needed

What you'll need as an Assistant Accountant

• Around 5 years' experience in an accounting or finance role
• Strong understanding of double-entry bookkeeping
• Experience with multi-currency transactions (highly desirable)
• Experience with intercompany reconciliations and VAT returns
• Confident Excel skills, including VLOOKUPs and pivot tables
• AAT Level 3 or 4, or qualified by experience
• A self-starter who's happy to get stuck into every part of the finance function

US GAAP, SOX or manufacturing experience would be a bonus, but full training is available. Candidates moving from practice into industry are also encouraged to apply.

Please note this role requires flexibility around month end close and some UK bank holidays.
