Job summary

The One Group is seeking a Temporary Assistant Accountant to support the client's finance team on a 1-3 month basis. The role covers transactional finance and month-end accounting, with duties including processing AP/AR, reconciliations and journal postings.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in similar roles, strong Excel and accounting systems skills, and the ability to work independently. The position is site-based in Peterborough and offers full-time hours at up to £20 per

Qualifications

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; able to investigate discrepancies.

• Available to start at short notice.

I'm looking for a Temporary Assistant Accountant to provide additional support to my client's finance team for an initial 1-3 month assignment.

This is a broad role requiring someone comfortable with both transactional finance and month-end accounting, alongside the ability to investigate account entries, identify discrepancies and make corrections where needed.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Supporting day-to-day Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable
• Processing and reviewing financial transactions
• Bank and balance sheet reconciliations
• Investigating unusual or incorrect account entries and identifying the root cause
• Correcting discrepancies and ensuring accounting records are accurate
• Posting journals, accruals and prepayments
• Supporting month-end processes
• Reviewing data and accounts to identify inconsistencies
• Providing general finance support wherever required

About you

We're looking for someone with a broad, practical accounting background who can hit the ground running.

You'll ideally have:

• Previous experience within an Assistant Accountant, Accounts Assistant or similar hands-on finance role
• Good working knowledge of both AP and AR
• Practical experience of reconciliations, journals and month-end processes
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills - you'll be comfortable "unpicking" transactions and investigating where something doesn't look right
• The confidence to work independently and use your own initiative
• Good Excel and accounting systems experience
• Availability to start at short notice

This role is fully site-based in Peterborough, working full-time hours, and is expected to last between 1 and 3 months.

Pay rate: up to £20.00 per hour, depending on experience.
