Job summary

Search Consultancy LTD in Halifax is seeking an Assistant Accountant on a 12-month fixed-term contract. The role offers exposure to a broad range of accounting responsibilities within a supportive finance team.

The ideal candidate will have experience in an Assistant Accountant or similar finance role, strong analytical skills, excellent Excel and financial systems knowledge, and be studying towards AAT/ACCA/CIMA/ACA. You will contribute to month-end, reporting, and process improvements.

Qualifications

• Experience as an Assistant Accountant or in a similar finance role.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and financial systems.
• Able to manage workloads and meet deadlines.
• Desirable: studying towards AAT, ACCA, CIMA or ACA.

Responsibilities

• Assist with monthly management accounts preparation.
• Complete balance sheet reconciliations and investigate variances.
• Maintain the fixed asset register and support month-end processes.
• Post journals, accruals and prepayments.
• Support budgeting and forecasting activities.
• Assist with audits and respond to information requests.
• Process and reconcile financial transactions.
• Produce reports and analyses for stakeholders.
• Identify opportunities to improve financial processes and controls.

Assistant Accountant

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Accountant to join a well-established organisation based in Halifax on a 12-month fixed-term contract.

This role is ideal for an ambitious finance professional who is looking to further develop their accounting experience within a supportive and collaborative finance team.

Key Responsibilities

• Assisting with the preparation of monthly management accounts
• Completing balance sheet reconciliations and investigating variances
• Maintaining the fixed asset register
• Supporting month-end and year-end processes
• Preparing and posting journals, accruals and prepayments
• Assisting with budgeting and forecasting activities
• Supporting audit requirements and responding to information requests
• Processing and reconciling financial transactions
• Producing accurate financial reports and analysis for stakeholders
• Identifying opportunities to improve financial processes and controls

About You

The successful candidate will:

• Have previous experience in an Assistant Accountant or similar finance role
• Possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Demonstrate excellent attention to detail and accuracy
• Have good knowledge of Microsoft Excel and financial systems
• Be able to manage workloads effectively and meet deadlines
• Be studying towards AAT, ACCA, CIMA or ACA (desirable)
• Have strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across departments
