Your next opportunity as an Assistant Accountant is at our Perth Office is on a Permanent Full Time basis.

About you

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting and Finance, with commensurate relevant industry experience
  • Studying towards CPA/CA.
  • At least 2 to 3 years previous experience in an accounting capacity preferable with excellent attention to detail, positive can-do attitude with ability to problem solving skills.
  • Requires understanding fundamentals and principles of accounting.
  • Experience in Account Payable and Account Receivables.
  • Experience in Balance Sheet reconciliations and month end journals.
  • Excellent teamwork abilities and provide high level support to others team members.
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Excel and Word and/or other accounting software.
  • Experience in asset capitalisation and maintenance of fixed asset register.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to complete tasks whilst maintaining confidentiality, great work ethics and professionalism.
  • Excellent time-management skills, proven track record in prioritising work to meet fast-paced business deadlines.

About the role

  • General Ledger reconciliations and processing of journals and maintenance of capital work in progress
  • Assist other accountants preparing monthend journals and any adhoc duties as directed.
  • Fixed Asset Register maintenance, including asset additions, transfers, and disposals.
  • Provide guidance to the business regarding the treatment of expenditure in accordance to Western Power’s policies and the Australian accounting standards
  • Assists with the continuous improvement initiatives for systems and processes to ensure alignment with Western Power’s accounting practices
  • Support month end accounting for Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable including provision for bad debts and impairment
  • Assist in preparation of the whole of government report to the Department of Treasury
  • Preparation of the Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) and cheque payment runs, including foreign currency payments
  • Ensure agreed critical suppliers are paid on time
  • Responding to internal and external customers regarding payment enquiries
  • Providing analysis of statistical payment data
  • Actioning stop payments requests, issuing of replacements cheques, stale and cancelled cheques, returned mail and unclaimed monies as required.
  • Liaise with Corporate Finance re daily cash commitments and preparation of unpresented cheque reconciliations.
  • Process miscellaneous and supplier refund cheques, EOPS claims etc.
  • Scan unclaimed monies for payments due to Western Power and action accordingly.
  • Ensuring security of Western Power cheque stationery including ordering, recording and maintenance of cheque stationery levels
  • Contribute to the organisation’s record keeping obligations by ensuring all accounting files are up to date.
  • Assist with regular operations including documenting processes, report generation and audit enquiries.
