About The Role

North Somerset Council provides a wide range of services to people who live and work within our communities and these are at the heart of everything that we do. We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and motivated individual to join the Finance Service at North Somerset Council as a Service Accountant who will support the Environment, Assets & Transport Services Directorate.

This post will provide business partnering services including financial support and advice to budget managers across the directorates and will support the Principal Accountant focusing on the budget setting, budget monitoring, forecasting, and out-turn reporting processes throughout the year.

About You

We are ideally looking for a qualified accountant although are willing to consider part-qualified accountants who are actively studying and working towards their professional exams. You will have previous experience of working in a finance environment and will have a clear understanding of how to support budget managers throughout the financial year.

As a finance professional you will have an awareness of accounting regulations and internal governance arrangements, understanding how these influence the work that we do. Experience in key activities such as budget monitoring, forecasting and reporting will be an advantage.

Applicants should be able to demonstrate excellent ICT, presentation and communication skills and have a positive can-do attitude. The role is primarily working from home so the successful candidate would need to be self-motivated, able to prioritise and manage their workload to meet deadlines. The post is career graded, so starting salary will be dependent on qualifications and experience as detailed in the supporting Person Specification.
