Job summary

UK Power Networks is seeking an Asset Inspector for the Southeast Region, based at the Strood/Canterbury office. The role covers inspection and maintenance across voltages from LV to HV, with a focus on safe operations and regulatory compliance.

You will join a permanent team and undertake required training. A clean driving licence and basic electrical understanding are essential; a medical and DBS check will be conducted if successful.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect and non-intrusively test plant and equipment on the distribution network.
  • Repair minor defects on the distribution network.
  • Take oil samples from HV plant.
  • Use handheld IT equipment on site.
  • Replace/test batteries and maintain site records.
  • Perform site visits in line with regulations.
  • Contribute to safety compliance and training as needed.

Job description

This Asset Inspector will report to the Inspection & Maintenance FSS and will work within Network Operations based in our Strood / Canterbury office. You will be a permanent employee.

You will attract a salary of £34,726 and a bonus of 3%.

If you are successful, you will need to undertake a medical and DBS reference check

To work as part of a team or as a lone worker in the Southeast Region.

Perform the full range of responsibilities associated with Asset Inspection at voltages from Low voltage through to extra high voltage

Principle Accountabilities
  • Inspection and non-intrusive diagnostic testing of all plant and apparatus associated with the distribution network
  • Repair of minor plant defects associated with the distribution network
  • Take oil samples from HV Plant
  • Use of appropriate handheld IT equipment
  • Replace/test batteries associated with the distribution network
  • Complete site visits required by the Electricity safety, quality and continuity regulations
  • Carry out system emergency suitable system emergency role depending on experience and suitable training
  • Ensure that you work to the Distribution safety rules and demonstrate a strong safety culture
  • Liaise with other departments within the business
Nature and Scope:

You undertaking you will play an important role in the safe completion of Inspection and maintenance programme in the Southeast Region

We may require you to work at any location within the UK Powernetworks footprint.

You maybe required to work either alone or with a team of other inspectors that report to a Field staff supervisor and have the support of experienced Field Engineers.

Experience
  • Clean Driving licence
  • GCSEs in English and Maths
  • Flexibility and ability to work on own and in a team environment
  • Enthusiasm to learn and develop new techniques
  • A strong safety focus
  • A basic electrical background
  • An understanding of health and safety and environmental legislation

Health & Safety Responsibilities
