Job summary

UK Power Networks Services is seeking a Project Manager to lead a portfolio of client connection projects from inception through commissioning. You will oversee electrical and mixed packages, drive delivery in line with CDM 2015, and ensure safety and environmental compliance.

The role requires PRINCE2/APM knowledge, strong scheduling with Microsoft Project, and the ability to liaise with multiple stakeholders. A UK driving licence and security clearance eligibility are essential.

Qualifications

  • Understanding of NRSWA / Street Works and project management experience are essential.
  • PRINCE2 or APM (PMQ) certification is preferred.
  • Microsoft Project proficiency is required for scheduling and reporting.
  • A valid UK driving licence is necessary for site and contractor coordination.
  • Ability to obtain project-related security clearance is required.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of UK Power Networks Services projects from initiation to completion.
  • Ensure delivery is safe, on time, within budget and to quality standards.
  • Coordinate interfaces with clients, design, operations, procurement and contractors.
  • Provide governance, reporting and cost control throughout the project lifecycle.

The Project Manager will report to the Client Delivery Manager and will work within UKPN Services based in our Chatham office. You will be a permanent employee in our UK Power Networks team.

You will attract a salary of £68,144 and a bonus of 3%.

If you are successful, you will need to undertake a medical and DBS reference check.

Job Purpose
  • You will manage a portfolio of UK Power Networks Services projects. These projects support our client Connections business in the delivery of customer connection and diversion works across the DNO network. The projects predominantly involve overhead line and underground cable projects up to and including 11kV.
  • Projects can range from electrical works packages through to full solutions.
  • UK Power Networks Services identifies and categorises projects according to complexity, providing commercial quotations and delivery solutions.
  • You will manage the safe, efficient, and commercial delivery of projects. This includes ensuring compliance with UK Power Networks standards, operational procedures, CDM 2015 regulations, environmental requirements, and customer expectations.
  • You will provide end-to-end project management from initial enquiry and quotation stage through to review of concept design, buildability, and construction. It also covers commissioning, handover, and post-commercial review and governance. Thus ensuring we deliver projects safely, on programme, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
  • Projects may range from delivery of solely electrical works packages to full solutions.
  • You will manage the safe, compliant and commercial delivery of projects, ensuring delivery to agreed programme, budget and quality requirements.
Principal Accountabilities
  • You will demonstrate visible commitment to the UK Power Networks General Safety Policy and Stay Safe programme, promoting a safety culture and ensuring compliance with all health, safety and environmental requirements.
  • You will deliver an assigned portfolio of Client Connections projects from inception through to completion, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget and to the required quality standards.
  • You will manage projects throughout their lifecycle, in accordance with UK Power Networks Services governance and control processes.
  • You will provide accurate project forecasting, reporting and programme management, ensuring key milestones are achieved and communicated to clients, stakeholders and senior management.
  • You will be the primary contact between Client Connections, Design, Network Operations, Procurement, Commercial, Supply Chain, customers, contractors and other stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.
  • You will manage commercial and contractual arrangements following project requirements and contract conditions, including NEC3/NEC4 where applicable, ensuring appropriate cost control, financial performance and profitability.
  • You will ensure all works are delivered in compliance with UK Power Networks engineering standards, operational procedures, environmental requirements, statutory legislation and CDM 2015 regulations.
  • You will provide construction assurance through site inspections, audits and project governance activities, ensuring quality of work, technical compliance, adherence to design specifications and compliance with testing and commissioning requirements.
  • You will manage both full projects and electrical-only delivery packages. This includes coordinating design, procurement, construction, commissioning and handover activities, or the provision of specialist electrical resources including SAPs, Jointers, Fitters, Overhead Line teams and Commissioning Engineers.
  • You will coordinate interfaces with principal contractors, civil contractors and third parties to ensure site readiness, programme alignment, efficient delivery of works and management of project risks.
  • You will manage project risks and opportunities, implementing mitigation measures and escalating issues to minimise impacts on safety, programme, quality, cost and customer satisfaction.
  • You will utilise labour, plant and contractor resources effectively, maintaining standards of safety, quality and productivity.
  • You will produce weekly and monthly project reports, support project reviews and ensure all commercial applications, project documentation and governance requirements are completed accurately and on time.
  • You will take ownership of project performance and quality outcomes, supporting and mentoring less experienced project managers.
  • You will promote best practice, lessons learned and continuous improvement opportunities to enhance project delivery performance across UK Power Networks Services.
  • You will demonstrate a commitment to safety, promoting compliance with UK Power Networks policies, procedures and environmental requirements.

  • You will provide project governance and construction assurance through planning, site oversight, quality management and compliance monitoring.
  • You will manage the delivery of both full projects and electrical-only work packages, coordinating resources and contractor interfaces.
  • You will identify project risks and opportunities, implementing appropriate mitigation and escalation measures.
  • You will utilise resources to support safe and efficient delivery.
  • You will produce accurate project reporting and maintain compliance with governance and control processes.
  • You will promote continuous improvement, sharing best practice and lessons learned across the business.
Key Competencies
  • Programme management of a portfolio of projects to a high level of safety and quality

  • An understanding of the HV and LV networks (11kV to 132KV) and civils groundworks would be advantageous;
Skills and Experience:
  • Understanding of NRSWA / Street Works
  • Previous Project Management Experience
  • PRINCE2 or APM (PMQ)
  • A good understanding and use of Microsoft Project.
  • Full UK driving licence
  • You must be able to achieve any project related Security Clearance
Desirable
  • The preferred requirement is Electrical Engineering (to HNC or similar). However, we welcome applications from candidates with a lesser qualification, provided they have a record of accomplishment in installing electrical distribution infrastructures (construction).
  • Experience of Primavera programme planning package
  • NEBOSH Certificate in construction.
  • NEC3/4 Contracts
