Job summary

UK Power Networks is seeking a Fitter based in Norwich to maintain, repair and construct plant and equipment up to 132kV. The role reports to the Field Staff Supervisor and is a permanent position within the UK Power Networks team.

The successful candidate will receive a salary of £41,031 plus benefits and a 3% bonus. Applicants must undergo medical and DBS checks; close date is 01/09/2026. The company offers generous benefits including pension, travel and health schemes.

Qualifications

  • Hold a current driving licence.
  • City & Guilds 2339 in Electrical Power Distribution (or similar).
  • Experience on regional electricity networks is advantageous.
  • Switching experience.
  • Previous DNO experience.

Responsibilities

  • Safety, Health and Environment responsibilities for the role.
  • Perform risk assessments and maintain safe working practices.
  • Operate handheld IT devices to receive job instructions and record asset data information.
  • Maintain electrical plant and equipment from LV up to 132kV network.
  • Undertake substation inspections.
  • Report hazards and defects through the reporting procedure.
  • Ensure quality of works meets current policies and procedures.
  • Be an ambassador for UK Power Networks and deliver excellent customer service.
  • Be able to work on your own or as part of a team.

Job description

This Fitter will report to the field staff supervisor and will work within network operations based in our Norwich office. You will be a permanent employee in our UK Power Networks team.

You will attract a salary of £41,031 + benefits and a bonus of 3%.

If you are successful, you will need to undertake a medical and DBS reference check

Job Purpose:

Working in the field at various locations maintaining, repairing and constructing plant and equipment at various substations on the electrical distribution network, up to and including the 132Kv system.

Duties
  • Responsibility for all aspects of Safety, Health and Environment relevant to this role
  • To perform risk assessments and maintain safe working practices
  • Be able to operate hand held IT equipment to receive job instructions and record asset data information
  • Maintain electrical plant and equipment from the low voltage network up to and including the 132kv network
  • Undertake sub station inspections
  • Report hazards and defects that they are unable to rectify through the appropriate reporting procedure
  • Ensure quality of works meets with current policies and procedures
  • Be an ambassador for UK Power Networks and deliver excellent customer service
  • Be able to work on their own or as part of a team.
Nature & Scope
  • You will be expected to work as part of a team of fitters that report to a Field Staff Supervisor and have the support of experienced Field Engineers.
  • The role is predominantly based in the Norwich Area. You may be required though to travel anywhere within the UK Power Networks area.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Youshould have the following:
  • Hold a current driving licence.
  • Have or be prepared to work towards a City & Guilds 2339 (formally 232) certificate in Electrical Power Distribution (or similar)
  • Show experience of working on regional electricity networks and therefore have knowledge of the electrical distribution network would be an advantage but is not essential.

Candidates with relevant transferrable skills and experience would be considered for the training role of "Craft Attendant Fitter"
