Job summary

Suffolk County Council is seeking an Assessment Co-ordinator for the Edge of Care Team in a hybrid role. You will coordinate referrals, information and processes across Family Help, ensuring accuracy and timeliness while handling sensitive information with professionalism.

You will support decision-making, prepare records for meetings, and liaise with partners to ensure timely access to support for children and families. A Level 4 qualification or equivalent experience is required.

Your role and responsibilities

This is a fast-paced and rewarding role where you will support the coordination of referrals, information and processes across Family Help. You will be comfortable managing competing priorities, responding to changing demands and maintaining accuracy when working with sensitive information that helps children and families receive support when they need it most.

You will be central to how the service operates, bringing together information, supporting decision-making and ensuring work progresses safely and efficiently.

You will:

  • thrive in a fast-paced environment, balancing multiple priorities and responding flexibly to changing service demands
  • maintain accuracy, professionalism and attention to detail when working under pressure and handling sensitive information
  • gather and collate background information to support informed decision-making
  • organise and support meetings and formal processes, including preparing information and taking accurate records
  • provide support for legal and court processes, including maintaining records and liaising with partners
  • ensure information is shared appropriately and promptly with colleagues and partners
  • provide administrative and systems support, helping teams to work effectively and resolve issues
  • deliver a high standard of customer care and communication with families and professionals
  • contribute to performance monitoring, data returns and service improvement
  • manage competing priorities and changing demands, ensuring work remains accurate, timely and well organised
  • support the smooth running of services in a fast-paced environment, demonstrating sound judgement, resilience and professionalism.

You will work within safeguarding and statutory frameworks, ensuring information is handled accurately, sensitively and in line with policy and guidance.

You will need

We are looking for someone who is organised, proactive and motivated by making a difference for children and families. You will enjoy working in a fast-paced environment, be confident managing competing priorities and take pride in delivering high-quality work even when demands are changing.

Our ideal candidate will bring:

  • a Level 4 qualification (or equivalent experience) in a relevant area
  • strong organisational skills and the ability to manage a varied workload while meeting competing deadlines
  • experience of working in a busy, fast-paced environment where priorities can change quickly
  • resilience and the ability to remain calm, focused and solution-oriented during challenging or high-demand periods
  • strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate records, data and systems under pressure
  • confidence working with sensitive, complex and sometimes emotionally challenging information, while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality
  • the ability to prioritise effectively, use sound judgement and make informed decisions within established processes
  • strong communication skills and the ability to build positive working relationships with colleagues, families and partner agencies
  • good problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to identifying issues and finding solutions
  • a commitment to delivering excellent customer service and ensuring children and families receive timely support.

We would also welcome:

  • experience of working within children's services, Family Help, safeguarding or other multi-agency environments
  • experience of supporting statutory processes or working within highly regulated services
  • strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office applications, case management systems and data handling.

The team

The Edge of Care Team deliver intensive targeted support to families who are experiencing a range of complex needs, for example substance misuse, domestic violence and families who are suffering poor family relationships.

The Team provide a Signs of Safety and trauma-informed, restorative approach to enable caregivers to recognise, acknowledge and fully understand the outlined worries and support them to make positive changes by building on and empowering them with skills, knowledge, and safety measures. Edge of Care will specifically offer an intervention to:

  • divert children and young people from entering care (Prevent entering care)
  • support children to return home following an unplanned breakdown in family relationships where they are risking homelessness and risking immediate care entry. An immediate 4+ week package will be offered to include a family network meeting. (Unplanned breakdown)
  • reunify children from a care setting where it has been assessed as safe to do so (Reunification)
