Job summary

E3 Recruitment is seeking an Assembly Team Leader in Leeds to drive performance in a hands-on role across mechanical or electrical assembly.

You will lead, coach and develop a small team, organise workloads and ensure production targets are met while maintaining safety and quality standards. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineer moving into team leadership within a growing manufacturing business.

Qualifications

• Significant experience in assembly/manufacturing with supervisory responsibility.
• Hands-on with mechanical or electrical assembly.
• Strong people management and ability to motivate and develop staff.
• Experience managing performance and addressing employee issues.
• Experience implementing Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement.
• Understanding of production planning, workflow, KPIs and Root Cause Analysis.
• Ability to read mechanical or electrical drawings.
• IOSH Managing Safely is essential; ILM Level 3/5, HNC/HND, Lean or Six Sigma qualifications advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Lead, motivate and develop assembly employees, managing performance and supporting individual development.
• Remain hands-on with mechanical or electrical assembly activities.
• Organise workloads, manage workflow and allocate resources to meet production schedules.
• Monitor production KPIs and identify opportunities to improve performance.
• Support Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement initiatives, including Kaizen activities.
• Work with other departments to maintain quality standards, achieve targets and ensure safe working practices.

Job description

Assembly Team Leader required. £40,000-£45,000 per annum, day shifts, 33 days annual leave and 5% matched pension.

As an Assembly Team Leader, this is a varied, hands‑on role within either mechanical or electrical assembly with responsibility for leading, motivating and developing a team. We are looking for someone with strong people management skills who can lead from the front, manage performance, address employee issues and create a positive and productive working environment.

The Assembly Team Leader role will involve:

• Organising workloads, managing workflow and allocating resources to meet production schedules.
• Monitoring production KPIs and identifying opportunities to improve performance.
• Supporting Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement initiatives, including Kaizen activities.
• Working with other departments to maintain quality standards, achieve targets and ensure safe working practices.

In return, the Assembly Team Leader will receive:

• £40,000-£45,000 annual salary, depending on experience.
• Day-based working hours. Monday to Thursday – 09:30am to 3:30pm. Friday – 09:30am to 12:00pm.
• 33 days annual leave
• 5% matched pension contribution.
• Death in Service benefit of 3x salary whilst contributing to the pension.

Assembly Team Leader Requirements:

• Significant experience within an assembly, manufacturing or engineering environment, ideally with previous supervisory responsibility.
• Strong practical assembly background and willingness to remain hands‑on.
• Excellent people management skills, with the ability to motivate, engage and develop employees.
• Experience managing performance, addressing employee issues and having difficult conversations when required.
• Experience implementing Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement initiatives.
• Understanding of production planning, workflow management, KPIs and Root Cause Analysis.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical or electrical engineering drawings. IOSH Managing Safely is essential, with ILM Level 3/5, HNC/HND, Lean or Six Sigma qualifications advantageous.
