Job summary

AECOM is inviting applications for a Ports Engineering Apprentice in Liverpool, starting in 2027. You will join our Ports Engineering teams, supporting planning, design and development of maritime infrastructure while learning on the job and through formal training.

You’ll gain exposure to live projects, use industry-standard software and BIM tools, and develop technical knowledge alongside mentors. The role offers a hybrid work model and routes to a recognised qualification in ports engineering.

Qualifications

• GCSEs/A-Levels or equivalent qualifications.
• Interest in civil, structural, coastal, maritime or ports engineering.
• Aptitude for technical software, CAD, 3D modelling or BIM.
• Basic proficiency in Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Interest in infrastructure, sustainability and the built environment.
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Teamwork and initiative when working independently.
• Enthusiasm, adaptability and willingness to learn.
• Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
• Creative and practical problem-solving approach.

Responsibilities

• Assist with preparation of engineering drawings, plans, models and supporting documentation.
• Support design and development of port, harbour, marine and waterfront infrastructure.
• Assist with preparation of technical calculations, specifications and design information.
• Help collect, analyse and interpret site, survey and engineering data.
• Support assessment and development of solutions for maritime infrastructure.
• Participate in site visits, surveys and inspections to gather information.
• Assist with technical reports, presentations and other project deliverables.
• Collaborate with engineers, designers and other technical professionals across teams.
• Support project administration and maintain accurate records.
• Develop understanding of relevant engineering standards, guidance, legislation and industry best practice.
