GSL are looking for Learning Support Assistants to support children with challenging behaviour profiles deriving from their possible difficulties socialising, emotional and/or mental health difficulties/traumas. Some children/young people you will be supporting may have suffered adverse childhood experiences, and you will help identify their risks and support their needs—escalating to senior staff when necessary.
You will join a friendly, energetic, and creative team. Working within a children’s mental health, trauma, and neurodivergent provision is challenging, but together we will help you identify the sectors that best suit your interests and skills.
Having a passion to support the learning of young people with SEMH through creative, visual, practical, and academic approaches is essential!
The school in Wandsworth is seeking graduates in social science, youth studies, psychology, criminology, or similar fields, but will consider non-graduates—sincerity, compassion, enthusiasm, and inspiration are equally valued.
Given the vulnerability of some children, building trust is vital. You will need to be familiar with safeguarding policies, and we can assist you in understanding these regulations. Listening empathetically to students sharing personal experiences is a key part of building trust and supporting their learning.
This role offers an opportunity to work closely with therapists, expanding your knowledge and gaining practical experience—ideal if you aspire to become a psychotherapist, occupational therapist, educational psychologist, or speech and language therapist.
Many children with SEND face marginalisation, trauma, family issues, low attainment, and stigma, which can create barriers to success. Your role will be crucial in providing consistency, safety, and empowerment, helping children believe in their potential.
