Job summary

GSL Education are seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant for a long-term, full-time position in Barking & Dagenham. You will provide tailored one-to-one support for pupils with ASD and complex needs, helping them access classroom activities and participate in daily routines.

Experience in primary settings and a calm, patient approach are essential. The role requires a strong safeguarding understanding and an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply, with a September 2026

Qualifications

Minimum of 1 year’s experience supporting children with ASD and very high additional needs.
Recent experience working within a primary school setting.
Proven ability to provide effective one-to-one SEN support.
Strong communication, patience, and behaviour management skills.
A calm, caring, and adaptable approach when supporting pupils.
A strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).

Responsibilities

Provide dedicated one-to-one support for pupils with SEN, including ASD and complex learning needs.
Support pupils in accessing classroom activities and following structured routines.
Use positive behaviour strategies to encourage engagement and emotional regulation.
Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to implement personalised support plans.
Build strong and supportive relationships with pupils, staff, and parents/carers.
Help create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment.
