Job summary

Acorn by Synergie is seeking an experienced AS400 Support Specialist to join an Industrial Lab Systems team on a temporary, on-site basis in Caerphilly or Thornbury. The role involves investigating AS400/system issues, identifying root causes, and delivering reports and insights to drive improvements.

You will work independently to resolve problems, write and enhance reports, and support continuous process improvements, with flexible hours (8am-4pm or 9am-5pm) Monday to Friday.

Qualifications

• Proven experience supporting IBM AS400 / IBM i environments.
• Strong knowledge of SQL and report writing.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to work independently and investigate complex operational issues.
• Experience within a manufacturing or operational environment advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Investigate and resolve AS400 operational and system issues.
• Identify root causes of system and process failures.
• Produce reports, data extracts, and meaningful business insights.
• Write, maintain, and enhance reports and queries.
• Conduct data analysis, validation, and troubleshooting activities.
• Monitor critical business processes and scheduled jobs.
• Track opportunities for process improvements and automation.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives across the business.
• Develop long-term solutions that reduce reliance on manual workarounds and temporary fixes.

Acorn by Synergie is recruiting an experienced AS400 Support Specialist to join an Industrial Lab Systems team on a temporary basis.

This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled IBM AS400 / IBM i professional to play a key role in supporting business-critical operations and driving system improvements.
