About the Company
Our client is a leading digital technology consultancy recognised as one of the UK’s foremost AI and data businesses, with a decade-long track record of delivering production-grade AI solutions across government, healthcare, defence and commercial sectors. Their 150-strong AI and Data Practice is trusted by Microsoft, AWS and others to deliver advanced solutions at citizen scale, and they are pioneers in responsible AI, having authored the UK government’s AI Cyber Security Code of Practice implementation guide.
The Role
This is an engineering role, not a data science role. You will deploy and serve ML models in production at significant scale, act as the most senior technical person on complex client projects and lead multi-disciplinary engineering teams across the full solution. Alongside delivery, you will bring genuine consulting capability, managing senior client relationships, contributing to bids and tenders and spotting commercial opportunities. Healthcare is a major growth area and early work may involve pipeline building before moving into full delivery. This role suits a technically exceptional, client-facing AI engineer who is as comfortable leading a project as they are reviewing an architecture.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the deployment and serving of AI and ML models in production at significant scale
- Act as technical lead across the full solution, leading software and platform engineers as well as the AI component
- Drive adoption of modern AI engineering approaches including RAG, agentic AI, model evaluation and drift detection
- Engage with senior and C-level client stakeholders on architecture, delivery management and commercial opportunities
- Contribute to bids, tenders and pre-sales activity as a credible technical voice
- Ensure responsible AI principles and engineering best practices are embedded throughout delivery
- Manage, coach and develop a team of engineers, setting standards and fostering a culture of excellence
What You’ll Need
- Proven track record deploying and serving AI and ML models in production at significant scale
- Traditional ML experience across classic ML, computer vision, reinforcement learning and MLOps, as well as GenAI including LLMs, RAG and agentic AI, with experience predating the GenAI era
- Technical leadership across a full solution, leading multi-disciplinary engineering teams
- Strong client-facing consulting ability including senior stakeholder management, delivery management and commercial awareness
- Strong Python and engineering practice including CI/CD, testing and code reviews
- Experience with Azure and/or AWS, Docker and Kubernetes
- Experience managing, coaching and developing engineers
- SC clearable: UK national with five years UK residency
- Healthcare or public sector delivery background
- Consultancy experience
- Existing SC clearance
- Experience with LLM fine-tuning or distillation, vector databases and semantic search
- Familiarity with ISO 42001 or AI compliance frameworks
- Experience shaping AI offerings and supporting pre-sales
