You will design engaging, therapeutic projects, deliver hands-on sessions, foster a safe environment, build positive relationships, track engagement, and collaborate with education and support staff to support student welfare and development.

We are seeking a passionate, resilient, and creative Art Instructor to join an innovative Alternative Provision in the Burnley area. In this role, you will work closely with young people who may have disengaged from mainstream education, helping them explore their creativity, build self-confidence, and develop emotional regulation through the medium of art.
You do not need to follow a rigid curriculum; instead, you will design engaging, hands-on, and therapeutic art projects that inspire curiosity and self-expression.
Deliver Creative Sessions: Plan and lead engaging art workshops (painting, drawing, mixed media, sculpture, crafts) tailored to small groups or 1-to-1 settings.
Foster a Safe Environment: Create a welcoming, non-judgemental space where students feel safe to express themselves and take creative risks.
Build Positive Relationships: Act as a positive role model, using patience and empathy to connect with students who have diverse educational and emotional needs.
Track Engagement: Monitor student progress and participation informally, celebrating small wins and milestones.
Collaborate: Work alongside education and support staff to ensure a holistic approach to student welfare and development.
Experience: Background in art, design, fine arts, or art therapy, with previous experience teaching, mentoring, or working with young people (youth work, alternative provision, or SEN environments is a strong plus).
Resilience & Empathy: A strong understanding of social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs, combined with a calm, adaptable, and positive attitude.
Creativity: Ability to think outside the box and adapt lesson plans to suit varying attention spans, interests, and skill levels.
Requirements: Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one) and the ability to start ASAP.
