Calor is seeking an Area Technical Supervisor to lead health and safety audits, quality inspections, and regulatory compliance across LPG installations in Ireland and the UK. The role is field-based and requires strong stakeholder management and a proactive safety mindset.

You will coordinate emergency response, contractor oversight, and customer-facing technical support, driving safe, practical solutions while supporting continuous improvement and cost-effective project outcomes.

Job description

The Customer Engineering Team plays a vital role in delivering operational excellence, compliance, and emergency response across Calor Ireland, ensuring customer sites meet regulatory and safety requirements.

The location of this role will be determined by the successful candidate and may be based in ROI or NI.

The Area Technical Supervisor is a field-based role responsible for health and safety audits, quality inspections, compliance monitoring, contractor and installer management, technical support, customer complaint investigations, emergency response, and oversight of high-risk liquid installations.

Success in this role requires strong relationship-building skills, sound technical knowledge, and a proactive approach to safety and compliance. The individual will support continuous improvement, promote a positive safety culture, and work collaboratively with internal teams and external partners to deliver safe, practical, and customer-focused solutions.

Key Responsibilities:
Emergency Response:
  • Receiving and coordinating response to After Hours Emergency Calls (24/7).
  • Managing the Out of Hours Emergency Response on Metered Distribution Systems.
  • Investigating Incidents at customer premises and preparation of associated reports including Incident Investigation Reports.
  • Investigation and resolution of Appliance / Installation related Customer complaints in consultation with Equipment Suppliers and Service Providers.
Contractor Management:
  • Carry out Health and Safety Audits, Quality Control Inspections of Calor Contractors, Installers and other Calor Contractors work across Bulk Tank, Cylinder and Company owned Installations.
  • Development, training and management of an effective Contractor and Installer Panel to service all sectors of the LPG Market (up to 30 Contractors / Installers per Supervisor).
  • Onboarding of new Contractors and Installers to support Calor’s Business & Safety Strategy in accordance with Calor’s Life Saving Rules
  • Ensure contractors are following a safe system of work on Calor projects in the field (supervise and spot check work, issue and manage permit to work for work in the field).
  • Providing technical advice and support to Contractors, Installers, Customer and Field Sales Staff in consultation with Customer Engineering and Business Development Teams.
Asset Management:
  • Inspection and certification of company and customer owned Installations.
  • Managing the maintenance of Liquid LPG Installations (Auto Gas, Vapourisers, Forklift Truck Filling, Asphalt etc).
  • Carry out Site Inspections of Company owned Metered Distribution Systems
  • Engage with customers on Bulk tank compliance projects providing technical solutions to meet Calor and customer needs and regulatory requirements
  • Plan and Coordinate remedial/ Improvement works on Calor owned Distribution systems.
  • Supervision of contractor panel performing works on Calor Installation projects including work on distribution systems, large industrial & commercial work and work on liquid installations.
  • Proactively manage the cost control elements of in field Customer Engineering projects/activities to maintain expenditure within budget.
  • Supporting the Calor Sales team and Business Development Engineers with cost efficient technical solutions for large Commercial and Industrial (I&C) Customers and identifying cost saving engineering solutions when required.
Regulatory Engagement:
  • Managing and conducting In Field Audits with CRU / Gas Safe / HSE
  • Management of Regulatory Bodies Field queries / correspondence and requests eg CRU, Fire Authority, Health and Safety Authority, Register of Gas Installers of Ireland, HSENI, Gas Safe, Consultants etc.
  • Provision of necessary technical guidance on LPG installations and control systems to the Gas Safety Supervisory Bodies (Safe Energy Ireland/Gas Safety Register) inspectorate as required
  • Ensure that health and safety of yourself and your colleagues is a priority in everything that you do - log Health and Safety conversations, as appropriate focusing on either an ‘unsafe condition’ where we see something that could cause injury to a person or an ‘unsafe act’ which is something that someone does that can lead to injury.

  • Registered Gas Installer or Gas Safe Registered.
  • Minimum of 8 years work experience in installation and maintenance Oil & Gas projects.
  • Strong knowledge of Health and Safety Standards relevant to the sector and capability to identify compliant cost-effective solutions in line with sectoral best practice.
  • Excellent knowledge and application of I.S. Gas Standards 3216, 3213, 813,820,265, and 329. LGUK codes of practices, IGEM Standards.
