Area Sales Manager - Wood Repair Resins and Fillers

Industry Sector: Quantity Surveyors, Architects, Specifiers, Heritage Companies, Property Management Companies, Local Authorities, Housing Associations, Joinery Sub-Contractors, Painting & Decorating Merchants, and General Builders Merchants

Area to be Covered: North, ideally based near M62

Remuneration: £40,000-£44,000 + 10% Bonus

Benefits: Fully expensed Hybrid Car & Full Benefits

The role of the Specification Sales Manager - Painting & Decorating will involve:

  1. Field sales position, selling a range of epoxy resins and fillers for wood repair
  2. 40% of your time winning specifications with predominantly quantity surveyors, architects, and other specifiers within local authorities, heritage companies, and property management organizations
  3. 30% stimulating demand for product with main contractors and specialist joinery and timber sub-contractors
  4. 20% of your time managing relationships with paint manufacturers, conducting project visits, and handling all associated admin
  5. 10% managing relationships with approximately 400 painting & decorating merchants (quarterly visits only)

Inheriting an area with a turnover of circa £500,000, tasked with growing it by 20%. The role involves 50% new business development and 50% account management. Working in a buddy system with a Technical Account Manager responsible for site inspections, surveys, and customer training. Project sizes up to £30,000, with an average order value of £10,000-£20,000. The candidate should be social media savvy.

The ideal applicant will have:

  • Field sales experience within the building products/construction industry (ideally 2+ years)
  • Experience selling to contractors and/or specifiers, understanding the specification sales process
  • Ideally sold products such as resins, fillers, grouts, adhesives, coatings, paints, or other timber/joinery products
  • Contacts within quantity surveyors, architects, local authorities, heritage companies, or property management organizations
  • Ability to communicate and build relationships with main contractors or sub-contractors like joinery/timber contractors
  • Outgoing personality, empathy, and charisma
  • Team player, comfortable working in a buddy system
