Area Manager - Operations Overview

Area Manager - Operations is the beating heart of Amazon. This key part of our business makes sure we fulfil and dispatch orders efficiently so that our customers get their items on time. As an Area Manager, you'll make sure your site is running as smoothly as it should so that we can meet customer demand. You will be leading a team that helps keep our operations safe, efficient, and of a high quality and taking on a number of projects across our network to drive productivity, while also playing an integral role in the expansion and launch of Nexus and Grocery across EU AMZL.

Key Job Responsibilities

Night Shift Area Manager - leading >30-80 Associates and Supervisors. In this role, you're required to:

  • Create, oversee, and drive a culture of safety and wellbeing
  • Analyse and implement changes to keep quality and productivity at a consistently high level
  • Oversee projects to streamline processes, optimise productivity and increase quality of service for customers within your area of responsibility
  • Analyse shift performance against relevant business objectives, and put in place actions to improve our operational excellence
  • Work collaboratively with management-level colleagues to standardise shift practices
A day in the life

You’ll work on a shift pattern at one of our sites, making sure it is as productive as it can be. Your main focus will be to own and drive a culture of safety and uphold quality and shift performance standards. You’ll also oversee process improvements within your area and drive implementation. A typical day is varied, including everything from routine team management and daily operational responsibilities to process improvement and wide-scale operational contingency tasks. You’ll also be a role model and mentor to new managers.

About the team

DCR3 - Croydon it's an exciting Delivery Station in London. One of the biggest Same-Day operations across the EU, delivering to our customers in the southern London area. Amazon Logistics, or AMZL, handles 'last mile' delivery duties in partnership with third-party distribution businesses. We utilise creative thinking and continuous improvement initiatives to get millions of physical products into the hands of our customers. Our goal is to make our customers’ delivery experience as smooth as possible and roll out global delivery solutions for our newest concepts.

Nexus is a micro-fulfillment solution designed to enable faster same-day delivery service by combining storage and dispatch operations within existing Amazon buildings, primarily Delivery Stations. The initiative also integrates fresh and frozen groceries into their Same Day delivery service, creating a convenient one-stop shopping experience for customers in need of immediate grocery delivery.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree, or MBA in business, data science, public administration, finance, engineering, human resources or related field
  • Speak, write, and read fluently in English at C1 level or above
  • Experience in stakeholder management, dealing with multiple stakeholders at varied levels of the organization
  • Experience in making data driven business decisions
  • Experience in supply chain, commodity, and supplier management in a high volume, global sourcing and operations manufacturing environment with a global supply base of contract manufacturers
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma and Kaizen techniques
  • Experience in warehouse operations and logistics or equivalent
  • Experience working with the MS Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) in a professional environment
