Job summary

The Manchester Metropolitan University is seeking an Apprenticeship Development Manager to help grow our higher and degree apprenticeship programmes. You will lead on developing new programmes, manage key employer relationships, and support curriculum development within a proactive team in a hybrid working pattern.

You will drive engagement with employers, apprentices and academic colleagues, lead on bids and tenders for income, and collaborate across university teams to meet recruitment targets

Job description

We are recruiting for two exciting opportunities within our growing Apprenticeship Business Development team: Permanent and Fixed-term Contract (2 years from start date).

As an Apprenticeship Development Manager, you will play a key role in supporting the continued growth and success of our higher and degree apprenticeship programmes. You will be part of a fast growing, highly motivated, proactive team engaging with a wide range of employers, apprentices and academic colleagues. You will act as the point of contact for employers, initiating and developing relationships with new businesses to meet University higher and degree apprenticeship recruitment targets. You will lead on new and developing programmes, supporting curriculum development and advising academic teams on apprenticeship policy and procedure and quality regimes.

Working in a hybrid pattern, the team is on the campus for at least 2 days each week.

Typically, You Will
  • Lead on new and developing programmes across the University, applying knowledge of relevant sectors to develop new propositions which generate profitable business, supporting curriculum development and advising academic teams.
  • Lead on successful account management of current clients, setting up appropriate communications and reporting structures to suit their needs and develop successful partnerships.
  • Lead and manage relevant Employer Advisory Boards, establishing systems with academic and other teams for responding to employers' and apprentices' feedback.
  • Identify opportunities and lead on bid and tender writing for the development of commercial and grant income, including local and national government funding options in order to achieve financial targets.
  • Collaborate closely with colleagues across the University from academic and professional services teams, advising and supporting as required.
The Ideal Candidate Will Possess
  • Experience of successful business development and client management including relationship building, sales, negotiation, bid writing, costing and pricing, tendering and securing external income.
  • Experience of supporting the development of new curriculum offers in HE.
  • Experience of engaging a wide range of business clients from large businesses to SMEs.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of national and regional policies and strategies that relate to degree apprenticeships.
  • Experience of developing positive and successful relationships with employers.
  • A clean driving licence, be able to drive and also travel by public transport when required.
