Job summary

MARCH is seeking enthusiastic Apprentice Mechanical Engineers to join our team and support projects across the water and wastewater sector. You will gain hands-on experience on site and in our workshop while working toward a recognised mechanical qualification.

Under the guidance of experienced engineers, you will learn installation, maintenance, testing, fault finding, and problem-solving on real-world projects that benefit local communities.

Qualifications

• A pursuing or completed NVQ2/3 Mechanical Installation or equivalent.
• Interest in engineering within industrial, process, water or wastewater environments.
• CSCS card or affiliated scheme.
• Positive, self-motivated attitude with a strong willingness to learn and grow.

Responsibilities

• Attend college training sessions and complete coursework on time.
• Support mechanical installation in workshop and site, safely.
• Learn installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of instrumentation systems.
• Participate in fabrication, assembly and mechanical fitting across projects.
• Develop skills in mechanical testing, fault finding and diagnostics.
• Use hand and power tools safely following engineering practices.
• Complete all practical and vocational requirements of the apprenticeship.
• Build and maintain an apprenticeship portfolio with up-to-date records.
• Follow company policies, safe systems of work and health and safety procedures.
• Collaborate with colleagues and customers while prioritising safety, quality and environmental responsibility.

Job description

We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated Apprentice Mechanical Engineers to join our growing team and help deliver Mechanical and Electrical projects across the water and wastewater sector.

This is an exciting opportunity where you will gain valuable hands‑on experience both on‑site and in our workshop while working towards a recognised mechanical qualification. Working alongside experienced engineers, developing practical skills in mechanical installation, maintenance, testing, and fault finding on real‑world projects that make a difference to local communities.

Key Responsibilities:

• Attending all college training sessions and completing coursework and assignments to a high standard and within agreed timescales.
• Supporting mechanical installation activities in both workshop and site environments, always working safely under the guidance of qualified engineers.
• Learning to install, maintain, and troubleshoot instrumentation systems and equipment.
• Taking part in fabrication, assembly, and mechanical fitting activities across a range of engineering projects.
• Developing skills in mechanical testing, fault finding, diagnostics, and problem‑solving techniques.
• Safely using a variety of hand and power tools while following best engineering practices.
• Completing all practical and vocational requirements of your apprenticeship programme.
• Building and maintaining an apprenticeship portfolio, ensuring records and evidence are kept up to date.
• Following company policies, safe systems of work, and health and safety procedures at all times.
• Working collaboratively with colleagues and customers while maintaining a strong commitment to safety, quality, and environmental responsibility.

Skills, Experiences & Qualifications:

• A commitment to studying towards, or currently working towards, a relevant vocational qualification such as an NVQ2/3 Mechanical Installation or equivalent
• A genuine interest in developing your engineering skills and gaining practical experience within industrial, process, water, or wastewater environments.
• Relevant CSCS or affiliated scheme card.
• A positive, self‑motivated attitude with a strong willingness to learn and grow.
• Good organisational skills and the ability to manage tasks effectively.
• Strong teamwork skills, with the confidence to collaborate and communicate with colleagues at all levels.
• A proactive approach, demonstrating initiative and a desire to take ownership of your development and responsibilities.
• A commitment to working safely and maintaining high standards of quality in everything you do.
