Job summary

March in Bury St Edmunds is seeking an experienced Project Engineer to lead day-to-day coordination and supervision of mechanical and electrical installation on site. You will work with project managers, clients, designers and subcontractors to deliver safe, on-time, and compliant projects.

The role requires strong leadership, site supervision, and a commitment to safety, quality and regulatory standards. A time-served apprenticeship with relevant qualifications plus 5 years' supervision

Qualifications

  • ONC, NVQ Level 5 or equivalent qualification or relevant experience.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in electrical or mechanical supervisory role.
  • Time-served apprenticeship in a mechanical or electrical discipline.
  • SMSTS, SSSTS, IOSH Managing Safely or similar health & safety qualifications.
  • Experience delivering projects in regulated environments.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise all on-site electrical and/or mechanical works, including installation, testing and commissioning.
  • Monitor progress against plans, specifications, programmes and milestones.
  • Coordinate procurement of materials and plant to keep works on track.
  • Manage and oversee activities of MARCH operatives, tradespeople and subcontractors.
  • Provide technical support and mentoring to site teams.
  • Promote health and safety culture and conduct risk assessments.

Project Engineer

Bury St Edmunds

We are seeking an experienced Project Engineer to join our team in Bury St Edmunds. As Project Engineer, you will take responsibility for the day-to-day coordination and supervision of mechanical and electrical installation activities on site. Working closely with project managers, engineers, clients, designers and subcontractors, you will play a key role in ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, and within specification.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Supervise all on-site electrical and/or mechanical works, including installation, testing and commissioning activities.
  • Monitor project progress against plans, specifications, programmes and milestones.
  • Coordinate the timely procurement of materials and plant to ensure works can be completed efficiently.
  • Manage and oversee the activities of MARCH operatives, tradespeople and subcontractors.
  • Provide technical support, guidance and mentoring to site teams.
  • Ensure all works comply with relevant specifications, regulations, standards and industry best practice.
  • Conduct regular quality and safety inspections to maintain high standards across the project.
  • Promote and uphold a strong health and safety culture, carrying out risk assessments and implementing corrective actions where required.
  • Report and address safety concerns, incidents and near misses promptly.
  • Collaborate effectively with project managers, engineers, clients, designers and other MEP disciplines.
  • Communicate project progress, challenges and solutions to the wider MARCH management team.
  • Attend and lead site reviews with clients, customers and design teams where appropriate.
  • Support audits and reporting requirements in line with contractual obligations.
  • Maintain accurate records relating to labour, materials, progress and programme delivery.
  • Produce programme droplines and progress updates against key project milestones.
  • Prepare and submit regular progress reports, including identifying blockers, risks and Early Warning Notices (EWNs).
  • Develop and issue rolling two-week lookahead programmes.
  • Maintain and update red-line drawings to support the production of accurate as-built documentation.
  • Review, approve and sign off weekly operative timesheets.
Skills, Experiences & Qualifications:
  • ONC, NVQ Level 5 or equivalent qualification, or relevant experience in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in an electrical or mechanical supervisory role within an MEP, infrastructure or construction environment.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical and/or electrical systems, installations and associated equipment.
  • Ability to read, interpret and work from technical drawings, schematics and specifications.
  • Knowledge of relevant industry standards and regulations, including BS Standards and other applicable codes.
  • Excellent leadership, planning and coordination skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Effective communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Professional, customer-focused approach with the ability to build positive working relationships at all levels.
  • Commitment to maintaining high standards of safety, quality and compliance.
  • Time-served apprenticeship in a mechanical or electrical discipline.
  • SMSTS, SSSTS, IOSH Managing Safely or other relevant health and safety qualifications.
  • Experience delivering projects within highly regulated or critical infrastructure environments.
  • Ability to work on construction sites and in outdoor environments when required.
