Job summary

GTG Training is offering a full-time EV Apprentice position in Milton Keynes. In this role, you will gain a Level 2 Autocare Technician Apprenticeship, with opportunities to progress to Level 3.

Your responsibilities include assisting with diagnostics, learning all aspects of vehicle repair, and contributing to workplace safety practices. Successful applicants will have GCSE Level 4 or above in Maths and English, and a genuine interest in cars and electric vehicles.

Job description

About the role

Full‑time EV Apprentice position in a garage workshop at Evans Halshaw. You will gain a Level 2 Autocare Technician Apprenticeship with progression to Level 3.

Responsibilities

• Learn all aspects of vehicle repair and maintenance, including servicing, MOT preparation, component overhaul, and electrical fault diagnostics.
• Assist with diagnostics and fault finding in electric and hybrid vehicles.
• Support maintenance and repair of vehicle components.
• Work with experienced technicians in a modern workshop environment.
• Follow safe working practices, especially around EV systems.
• Contribute to workplace housekeeping and health & safety.

Typical Day

You will be based in the garage workshop and work alongside technicians, gaining hands‑on experience across a range of tasks.

Technical Units Covered

• Materials, fabrication, tools, and measuring devices used in the automotive environment
• Inspection of light vehicles
• Diagnosing and rectifying chassis units and components
• Diagnosing and rectifying engine and component faults
• Supporting the maintenance and repair of electric and hybrid vehicles
• Learning vehicle inspections and servicing
• Assisting with diagnostics and fault finding
• Using safe working practices for EV systems
• Contributing to good housekeeping
• Reducing risks to health and safety

Working Hours

Monday to Friday, 8 am – 5 pm (40 hours per week).

Learning & Development

• Industry‑recognised Autocare Level 2 and Motor Vehicle Technician standards
• Hands‑on experience with EV technology and diagnostics
• Skill development in maintenance, repair, and inspection
• Ongoing support from expert trainers and mentors

Requirements

• GCSE Level 4 or above in Maths and English (or equivalent)
• Genuine interest in cars and electric vehicles

• Full UK driving licence is preferred, but not essential
