Job summary

Reed is seeking an Electrical Applications Engineer to join our growing energy-focused engineering team in the West Midlands. This role supports sales, develops technical proposals, and delivers electrical solutions from enquiry to project award.

You will review drawings, calculate costs, and liaise with suppliers, delivering compliant designs and clear technical documentation while coordinating with customers and internal teams to win bids.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2+ years in Applications Engineering, Technical Sales or Electrical Engineering.
• Strong understanding of electrical engineering principles including power distribution, protection, controls and instrumentation.
• Experience producing electrical calculations and technical documentation.

Responsibilities

• Develop electrical concepts and technical solutions in response to customer requirements.
• Review specifications, drawings, schematics, and technical documentation.
• Produce preliminary electrical designs, single-line diagrams, load schedules and equipment specs.
• Prepare accurate cost estimates covering labour, materials and logistics.
• Liaise with manufacturers and suppliers for technical and commercial information.
• Create high-quality technical and commercial proposal documents.
• Support customer meetings and provide technical guidance during bids.
• Assess power systems, instrumentation, controls, electrical protection and interface requirements.
• Contribute to product development and standardisation initiatives.
• Provide ongoing technical support to stakeholders.

An innovative engineering business operating within the energy sector is seeking an experienced Electrical Applications Engineer to join its growing team. This is an exciting opportunity to work on technically challenging projects across emerging and sustainable energy markets, supporting the development of electrical concepts, technical solutions, and commercial proposals.

The Role

As an Electrical Applications Engineer, you will play a key role in supporting sales and business development activities, helping to deliver engineered solutions for a range of complex industrial and energy projects. Working closely with customers, suppliers, and internal teams, you will develop technical proposals, cost estimates, and electrical designs from enquiry through to project award.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop electrical concepts and technical solutions in response to customer requirements.
• Review specifications, drawings, electrical schematics, and technical documentation.
• Produce preliminary electrical designs, single-line diagrams, load schedules, and equipment specifications.
• Prepare accurate cost estimates covering labour, materials, and logistics.
• Liaise with equipment manufacturers and specialist suppliers to obtain technical and commercial information.
• Create high-quality technical and commercial proposal documents.
• Support customer meetings and provide technical guidance throughout the bid process.
• Assess power systems, instrumentation, controls, electrical protection, and interface requirements.
• Contribute to continuous improvement, product development, and standardisation initiatives.
• Provide ongoing technical support to both internal and external stakeholders.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:

• A minimum of 2 years' experience within an Applications Engineering, Technical Sales, or Electrical Engineering position.
• Strong understanding of electrical engineering principles, including power distribution, protection systems, controls, and instrumentation.
• Experience producing electrical calculations and technical documentation.
• Knowledge of electrical equipment selection and system integration.
• Experience interpreting electrical schematics, load schedules, and single-line diagrams.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• The ability to manage multiple projects and work to strict deadlines.

Qualifications

Essential:

• HND or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.

Desirable:

• Degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering.

• Full UK driving licence.
• Willingness to travel both within the UK and internationally when required.
