Electrical Design Engineer – Power Systems

Location: Wigan

Salary: £50,000 – £55,000 + Excellent Benefits

We are recruiting on behalf of a successful British manufacturer of specialist power systems and electrical infrastructure solutions, as they continue an exciting period of growth.

From its beginnings as a small R&D business around 35 years ago, they have developed into a thriving engineering and manufacturing company delivering increasingly large, prestigious and technically challenging projects for major commercial, industrial and utility clients across the UK.

The Role

• Develop high-level electrical and power system design schemes.
• Translate customer specifications into practical engineering solutions.
• Design power generation, distribution and control systems.
• Carry out system sizing, equipment selection and electrical calculations.
• Produce schematics, technical drawings, specifications and BOMs.
• Solve complex technical and design challenges on bespoke projects.
• Support projects through manufacture, installation and commissioning.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant BS, EN and IEC standards.
• Contribute to increasingly complex utility, infrastructure and substation-related projects.

About You

You will be a strong electrical design engineer who can think at a systems level, rather than simply designing individual components.

Experience within any of the following areas would be particularly relevant:

• Power generation or electrical distribution
• Switchgear
• Generators
• UPS / critical power
• Battery systems
• Rectifiers and inverters
• ATS systems
• Electrical control equipment and enclosures
• Substations, utilities or DNO projects

You do not need experience across every area. They are equally interested in engineers with strong transferable electrical design skills, excellent problem-solving ability and the capability to develop complete system solutions.

An HNC/HND or Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline is preferred.
