Job summary

As a hybrid role in Buckinghamshire, the Application Support Engineer will ensure the stability, performance and reliability of a sophisticated data platform. You will own incidents, troubleshoot complex Linux-based issues, and write Python scripts to automate tasks and prevent recurrence.

You will monitor health, collaborate with development and infrastructure teams on releases, and document processes while communicating clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders in a data-driven

Qualifications

• Proven experience in an application support, systems support, or similar technical role.
• Strong, hands-on Linux experience essential; comfortable with command line and troubleshooting.
• Solid Python scripting skills to automate processes and resolve issues.
• Experience supporting data platforms or data pipelines is desirable.
• Familiarity with monitoring tools such as Grafana, Prometheus or Nagios.
• Experience with SQL and database troubleshooting is advantageous.
• Methodical, analytical problem solver with strong attention to detail.
• Excellent communication skills for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Based within commuting distance of Aylesbury or Milton Keynes for hybrid working.

• Providing application support for a leading data platform, taking ownership of incidents, problems, and service requests through to resolution
• Diagnosing and troubleshooting complex technical issues across Linux-based environments, identifying root causes and implementing fixes
• Writing, maintaining, and optimising Python scripts to automate processes and improve performance
• Monitoring platform health and performance, proactively addressing potential issues
• Working with development and infrastructure teams to manage releases, deployments, and configuration changes
• Producing clear technical documentation including runbooks, incident reports, and knowledge base articles
• Liaising with internal stakeholders and vendors to resolve issues effectively
• Contributing to continuous improvement of support processes, tools, and practices

A well-established and highly regarded data platform company near Aylesbury/Milton Keynes Buckinghamshire is looking for a technically capable and proactive Application Support Engineer to join their team offering a fantastic hybrid role where your Linux expertise and Python knowledge will be put to great use in a dynamic and data-driven environment.

The Role

As Application Support Engineer, you'll play a key role in ensuring the stability, performance, and reliability of a sophisticated data platform. You'll be the go-to technical expert for application support issues, working closely with development, infrastructure, and operations teams to diagnose and resolve problems quickly and effectively. This is a hands-on role that requires strong Linux experience and solid Python skills someone who is equally comfortable investigating a complex technical issue as they are scripting a solution to prevent it from happening again.

Key Responsibilities

What We're Looking For

• Proven experience in an application support, systems support, or similar technical role

• Solid Python scripting skills able to write, read, and maintain scripts to support automation and problem resolution
• Experience supporting data platforms, data pipelines, or similar data-focused technical environments is highly desirable
• Familiarity with monitoring and alerting tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, Nagios, or similar
• Experience with SQL and database troubleshooting is advantageous
• A methodical, analytical approach to problem solving with strong attention to detail
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical issues clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Based within commuting distance of Aylesbury or Milton Keynes for hybrid working requirements
