Job summary

Schindler Ltd (UK) is seeking a Trainee Application Engineer to support lift modernisation projects across the UK. You will gain hands-on experience with design calculations, CAD drawings and BOM preparation while working alongside experienced engineers in a global leader in the lift industry.

The role is ideal for a graduate or early-career engineer aiming to build a long-term career with opportunities for professional development within Schindler Group.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (BEng/BSc) or Master’s (MEng/MSc) required.
• Understanding of engineering principles, drawings and design calculations.
• Experience using CAD software, ideally AutoCAD.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
• Good communication with colleagues and stakeholders.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
• Proactive approach to learning in a technical engineering environment.
• Experience from industry placements, internships or engineering roles.
• Experience using 3D modelling software such as Revit.
• Familiarity with lift/escalator/building services knowledge.
• Experience using SAP or similar ERP systems.
• UK driving licence.

As a Trainee Application Engineer, you'll support the design and configuration of lift modernisation and upgrade solutions for projects across the UK. Working alongside experienced engineers, you'll develop your technical design, calculation and problem-solving skills while playing an important role in delivering safe, compliant and commercially effective solutions. This is an excellent opportunity for a graduate or early-career engineer looking to build a long-term career within a global leader in the lift and escalator industry.

Your main responsibilities

In this role, you'll be responsible for:

• Supporting the design and engineering of both standard and bespoke lift modernisation solutions
• Producing engineering calculations, technical documentation and design specifications to support project delivery
• Creating and updating engineering drawings and layouts using CAD software, including AutoCAD and 3D modelling tools where appropriate
• Assisting with product configuration and the preparation of accurate bills of materials
• Working closely with internal teams to ensure engineering solutions are delivered to agreed quality, cost and timescale requirements
• Providing technical support to colleagues, customers and project teams throughout the design process
• Supporting site surveys and attending customer meetings to gather technical information and project requirements
• Helping to identify and resolve technical design issues, ensuring solutions remain compliant and practical to deliver
• Maintaining accurate engineering records, drawings and project documentatio

Who you are

• Bachelor of Engineering (BEng), Bachelor of Science (BSc), or a master's degree (MEng/MSc)
• Understanding of engineering principles, technical drawings and design calculations
• Experience using CAD software, ideally AutoCAD
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Good communication skills with the ability to work effectively with colleagues, customers and stakeholders
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
• A proactive approach to learning and developing within a technical engineering environment
• Previous experience gained through industry placements, internships, work experience or an engineering role
• Experience using 3D modelling software such as RevitKnowledge of lift, escalator, building services, construction or manufacturing environments
• Experience using SAP or similar enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems
• Familiarity with engineering design and configuration tools
• A full driving licence valid for use in the UK
