Job summary

Schindler Group in the UK is hiring an Applications Engineer to design and configure lift solutions for a range of projects across the UK. You will translate customer requirements into compliant, commercially viable designs, performing engineering calculations and generating documentation from concept to final configuration.

Working with sales, project delivery and engineering teams, you’ll ensure high standards of safety, quality and performance while using CAD tools such as AutoCAD and SAP,

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Experience in engineering design and technical calculations.
• Proficiency with CAD software, including AutoCAD.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.

Responsibilities

• Designing and engineering both standard and bespoke lift solutions to meet customer, project and technical requirements.
• Producing engineering calculations, design specifications and technical documentation to support solution development.
• Creating and reviewing layout drawings and design information using CAD software.
• Managing application engineering activities in line with industry standards and Schindler guidelines.
• Collaborating with internal stakeholders to deliver high-quality engineering solutions within timescales and budgets.
• Providing technical support and guidance to colleagues, customers and project teams throughout the project lifecycle.
• Configuring lift systems and generating bills of materials for manufacturing, procurement and installation.
• Reviewing technical requirements and identifying risks or gaps before project release.
• Contributing to continuous improvement to enhance engineering quality and customer satisfaction.

Application Engineer

As an Application Engineer, you'll play a key role in the technical design and configuration of lift solutions for a wide range of projects across the UK. Working closely with sales, project delivery and engineering teams, you'll transform customer requirements into practical, compliant and commercially viable solutions. From engineering design and technical calculations through to final configuration and documentation, you'll help ensure every solution meets the highest standards of quality, safety and performance.

Your main responsibilities

In this role, you'll be responsible for:

• Designing and engineering both standard and bespoke lift solutions to meet customer, project and technical requirements
• Producing engineering calculations, design specifications and technical documentation to support solution development
• Creating and reviewing layout drawings and design information using CAD and AutoCAD software
• Managing application engineering activities in line with relevant industry standards, regulations and Schindler guidelines
• Collaborating with internal stakeholders to deliver high-quality engineering solutions within agreed timescales and budgets
• Providing technical support and guidance to colleagues, customers and project teams throughout the project lifecycle
• Configuring lift systems and generating accurate bills of materials to support manufacturing, procurement and installation activities
• Reviewing technical requirements and identifying potential risks, issues or design gaps before project release
• Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance engineering quality, efficiency and customer satisfaction
• Supporting the delivery of right-first-time engineering solutions that achieve quality and performance objectives

Who you are

• Degree qualification in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent engineering discipline
• Experience in engineering design, technical calculations and problem-solving within a technical engineering environment
• Proficiency in CAD software, including AutoCAD
• Strong understanding of engineering principles, technical drawings and design documentation
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
• A customer-focused approach with the ability to deliver solutions in a fast-paced environment
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
• Experience within the lift, escalator, building services, construction, manufacturing or related engineering sectors
• Experience using 3D CAD and modelling software
• Knowledge of SAP or similar enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems
• Familiarity with lift design and configuration tools
• Understanding of lift products, systems and industry standards
