Main duties of the job

We have an exciting, fixed term, opportunity for a band 6 midwife to join the Antenatal and Newborn Screening Team.

The role involves supporting the coordination of 3 antenatal screening programmes and the newborn bloodspot screening programme, counselling screen positive people and acting as an ambassador and local expert for safe screening within our maternity service.

Operating multiple screening programmes provides an opportunity to gain experience in areas you may not have encountered in your current midwifery roles. The team are friendly providing a kind but effective and supportive focus for those encountering screen positive results.

You will acquire increased experience in supporting non-directed conversations with our pregnant population and gain from the multidisciplinary relationships that working with other stakeholders in screening programmes brings – these include (but are not limited to) our Fetal Medicine, Sexual Health, Neonatal, Haematology and Laboratory lead colleagues.

The role involves flexible working across the working week with some weekend working when workload requires.

What You’ll Do

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Support in caring for women and birthing people undergoing antenatal screening and for parents of babies having newborn bloodspot screening
  • Provide support with the team in operating failsafes for all of the screening programmes
  • Providing practical and emotional support to women, birthing people and their families during their screening pathway
  • Interface with the various stakeholders who provide clinical support along the pathways
  • Become a resource for supporting midwives and students to further their knowledge and make our screening pathways safe.
