Job summary

ALS Wakefield is seeking a Laboratory Analyst (Grade 1) to join the Organics department. No prior lab experience is required as full training will be provided. You will work a Monday to Friday shift from 08:00 to 16:00, with flexi‑time after training, based in Ossett, Wakefield.

The role involves analysing samples with GC, GCMS and LCMS, recording results, and maintaining quality and health & safety standards. A strong willingness to learn and teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

  • Must have a passion for science and a willingness to learn.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills are essential.
  • Basic IT competency and a proactive, client‑focused attitude are expected.

Responsibilities

  • Analysing samples using GC, GCMS and LCMS techniques.
  • Record results accurately in line with quality standards and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with UKAS accreditation and internal quality systems.
  • Support colleagues to meet daily performance targets.
  • Participate in Taste and Odour panel on rotation after screening.
  • Maintain a safe and organised work environment.

Shift: Monday to Friday (08:00 - 16:00, with flexi‑time available once trained) Salary: £25,878 Location: Ossett, Wakefield Contract: 12 Month Fixed Term, Full‑Time

The day to day
  • Analysing samples using a range of GC, GCMS, and LCMS techniques
  • Recording accurate results in line with quality standards and laboratory procedures
  • Ensuring compliance with UKAS accreditation and internal quality systems
  • Supporting colleagues to meet daily performance targets
  • Participating in the Taste and Odour panel on a rotational basis (following screening)
  • Maintaining a safe and organised work environment
The Essentials

  • 5 GCSEs at grade C/4 or above including Science, Maths and English, plus an A‑Level (or equivalent) in a Scientific subject
