Journey Education Group is seeking an Alternative Provision Learning Coach to work full time in Doncaster. You will support individual students with significant barriers to learning, assisting teachers and specialists to deliver inclusive education and ensure emotional regulation and positive behaviours.

The role involves close collaboration with parents, external professionals and other schools to monitor progress and provide targeted interventions.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 5 GCSEs or equivalent.
  • Higher education qualifications in relevant fields (education, psychology) are desirable.
  • Experience working with children or young people in educational/support roles is advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in lessons and support teachers to create a safe, engaging learning environment.
  • Support students in emotional regulation and behaviour management.
  • Maintain accurate logs and progress trackers; update paperwork daily.
  • Liaise with parents, other schools and agencies as required to support student needs.
  • Identify academic and social-emotional needs and contribute to intervention plans.
  • Provide targeted support to students with learning difficulties or disabilities to access the curriculum.
  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians about student progress and concerns.

Alternative Provision Learning Coach - Full time

You will be expected to work closely with the teaching staff and wider to support the educational and social needs of students. The primary objective is to provide individualised support to students who may face significant barriers to learning and help create a positive and inclusive learning environment.Our provision supports students with a range of needs, including autism, ADHD and social, emotional and mental health challenges.

You will need a calm, flexible and patient approach, with the ability to adapt to change and remain professional under pressure. Excellent communication is essential, as the role involves working closely with teachers, parents and external professionals to ensure students’ needs are met.

Key responsibilities include assisting in lessons, supporting emotional regulation, completing daily paperwork, updating behaviour and progress trackers, and maintaining accurate logs. You will also be expected to liaise with parents and other schools or agencies when required, helping to build strong, supportive relationships around each student.

Experience working with SEN students is desirable, but we welcome applicants who are eager to learn and committed to inclusive education. This role suits someone who values teamwork, consistency and making a real difference every day.

Responsibilities:

  • Support Classroom Instruction:
  • Assist the teacher in delivering lessons and maintaining a safe and engaging learning environment.
  • Provide targeted support to individual or small groups of students, ensuring their understanding of the lesson content.
  • Collaborate with the teacher to develop and adapt teaching materials to meet students' needs.
  • Behaviour and Emotional Support:
  • Implement behaviour management strategies to promote positive choices and appropriate conduct in students.
  • Support students in developing emotional resilience and self-regulation skills.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with students to cultivate a supportive and nurturing environment.
  • Identify academic and social-emotional needs of students and develop individualised intervention plans.
  • Provide additional support to students with learning difficulties or disabilities, ensuring their access to the curriculum.
  • Monitor and track student progress, offering feedback, encouragement, and praise to promote growth.
  • Collaborate effectively with the teaching staff and other professionals involved in the students' care, such as therapists or social workers.
  • Contribute to planning and team meetings, providing insights on student progress and suggesting strategies for improvement.
  • Maintain regular communication with parents/guardians to update them on student performance and address any concerns.
  • Health and Safety:
  • Ensure the physical safety and well-being of students during school hours, including supervision during breaks and outings.
  • Administer first aid and follow appropriate protocols in emergency situations.

Person Specification:

  • Qualifications and Experience:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people in an educational or support role is advantageous.
