Job summary

CommonAI CIC is seeking a candidate to develop and implement methods to calibrate simulator models against measurements, evaluate predictions on unseen cases, and integrate uncertainty analysis into the simulation workflow.

You will combine mathematical reasoning with software engineering, collaborate with measurement and workload engineers, and help communicate assumptions and limitations to engineers and the technical analyst.

Qualifications

• Mathematical maturity to reason about models, data, variation and quantitative claims.
• Software engineering experience to turn numerical methods into readable, tested tools.
• Experience in quantitative systems performance analysis, statistical modelling, or uncertainty quantification desirable.
• Ability to collaborate with specialists and explain results and limitations.
• Experience using AI coding agents and validating their output.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement methods to calibrate simulator models against measurements and evaluate predictions on cases not used for calibration.
• Distinguish uncertainty from measurements, model assumptions, and parameters, and represent it appropriately.
• Analyse sensitivity and uncertainty in comparisons between alternatives, accounting for shared uncertainty sources.
• Develop outputs showing how uncertain a prediction is, when rankings could change, and when results go beyond the evidence used to validate them.
• Work with measurement and workload engineers to design experiments that test modelling assumptions and reduce uncertainty that matters to the decision.
• Integrate these methods into repeatable simulation workflows and communicate their assumptions and limitations to engineers and the technical analyst.
