Job summary

Metro in Birmingham seeks an AI Governance & Copilot Platform Lead to establish and lead Metro's AI governance across Microsoft Copilot, Copilot Studio, and Azure AI services. You will define policies, risk controls and reporting, partnering with IT, Security and Compliance to ensure secure, compliant AI adoption across global operations.

The role requires deep knowledge of AI governance, risk management and enterprise AI platforms, with a focus on responsible AI practices and regulatory

Responsibilities

• Lead technical governance for Microsoft AI Platform Technologies.
• Develop AI governance policies, standards and risk controls.

We are seeking an experienced and forward-thinking AI Governance & Copilot Platform Lead to establish and lead this capability across Metro.

What You’ll Be Doing

As part of our Technology & Innovation function, your role will include:

• Establish and maintain Metro's AI governance framework, ensuring Microsoft AI services are adopted in a controlled, secure and measurable manner.
• Define policies, standards, procedures and control frameworks relating to AI technologies.
• Act as the strategic owner for Microsoft AI governance, working closely with IT, Security, Compliance and business stakeholders.
• Evaluate new Microsoft AI capabilities, assessing opportunities, risks, compliance requirements and suitability for Metro.
• Establish governance processes covering AI use cases, approvals, risk assessments, monitoring and ongoing review.
• Provide oversight of AI Agent deployment and lifecycle management, ensuring solutions meet defined governance, security and operational support standards.
• Monitor AI-related risks and emerging regulatory requirements, recommending appropriate controls and remediation activities.
• Support compliance initiatives including ISO 27001, GDPR, Cyber Essentials and internal governance requirements as they relate to AI technologies.
• Develop reporting and metrics relating to AI adoption, risk exposure, governance maturity and realised business value.
• Act as the subject matter expert for AI governance and responsible AI practices across the organisation.
• Collaborate with AI Engineers, Developers, Security Teams and Business Stakeholders to ensure innovation is delivered within agreed governance boundaries.
• Monitor Microsoft's evolving AI roadmap and provide recommendations to leadership regarding future opportunities and strategic direction.

What You’ll Bring

We're looking for someone who's not just experienced, but passionate about enabling safe and scalable AI adoption. You'll need:

• Experience working with enterprise AI technologies, with high deep knowledge of Microsoft AI Platform Technologies including Microsoft 365 Copilot, Copilot Studio, AI Agents, Azure AI Services and Agent Orchestration (other/similar AI platforms experience would be valuable).
• Strong understanding of governance, risk management, compliance and information security principles.
• Experience developing policies, standards, governance frameworks or control processes within a technology environment.
• Knowledge of Microsoft security and compliance capabilities, including Microsoft Purview, Data Loss Prevention (DLP), Information Protection and audit controls.
• Strong understanding of AI-related risks, including data protection, information governance, compliance and responsible AI practices.
• Experience working with business and technical stakeholders to balance innovation with governance requirements.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at all levels of the organisation.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with the ability to assess emerging technologies and translate findings into practical recommendations.
• Understanding of compliance frameworks such as ISO 27001, GDPR and Cyber Essentials.
• Ability to operate strategically whilst maintaining attention to detail, documentation and governance disciplines.
