Job summary

Ocho People is seeking a Head of Engineering for a fast-growing technology company in a regulated domain. This is the most senior engineering role, reporting directly to the CEO, with ownership of the engineering function and end-to-end delivery.

The role is hybrid from Derry/Londonderry with a minimum three days in the office. The stack is TypeScript on AWS, with a modern AI-first culture and a strong emphasis on security.

Qualifications

• Demonstrable AI fluency in engineering work.
• Track record of directly managing engineers with hiring and performance management experience.
• Experience reporting to or partnering with non-technical executive leadership.
• Hands-on engineering background with modern web and cloud stack.
• Comfortable operating as the sole senior engineering leader in a fast-moving environment.
• Calm under pressure with integrity and direct feedback.

Responsibilities

• Own the engineering function, the team, processes, tooling and AWS spend.
• Hire, develop and performance-manage engineers.
• Translate between engineering reality and business intent at CEO level.
• Push back when needed and negotiate scope without harming relationships.
• Be the go-to person for the team when the answer is not obvious.
