Placements24 is seeking an experienced Agricultural Operations Manager to lead and direct large-scale farming operations in and around Tembisa, Gauteng. You will oversee day‑to‑day farm activities, optimize yields, manage resources, and ensure safety and regulatory compliance across the operation.

The ideal candidate has a bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, 5–7 years in supervisory roles, strong leadership, expertise in farm machinery and irrigation, cost control, and staff development.

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated and experienced Agricultural Operations Manager to oversee and direct their extensive farming operations in and around Tembisa, Gauteng . This senior position requires a hands‑on leader with a strong background in managing large-scale agricultural projects, ensuring optimal efficiency, productivity, and profitability. You will be responsible for the day-to-day management of farm activities, including crop cultivation, livestock management (if applicable), resource allocation, staff supervision, and adherence to quality and safety standards. This role is crucial for the success of our client's agricultural endeavors in the Agriculture & Forestry sector. The ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional leadership qualities and a deep understanding of operational challenges unique to the Tembisa area.

Key Responsibilities

• Direct and manage all aspects of daily farm operations, including planting, cultivation, harvesting, and post-harvest handling.
• Develop and implement operational strategies to maximize crop yields and quality while minimizing costs.
• Oversee the management and maintenance of farm equipment, infrastructure, and land resources.
• Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate farm labor, ensuring productivity and adherence to company policies.
• Manage budgets, control expenditures, and ensure financial targets are met.
• Ensure compliance with all agricultural regulations, environmental policies, and health and safety standards.
• Monitor crop health, soil conditions, and irrigation systems, making timely adjustments as needed.
• Maintain accurate records of all farm activities, production data, and financial transactions.
• Liaise with suppliers, distributors, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth supply chain operations.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Agribusiness Management, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5-7 years of proven experience in agricultural management, preferably in a supervisory or managerial capacity.
• Demonstrable experience in managing large-scale farming operations, with specific knowledge of crops relevant to the Gauteng province.
• Strong understanding of farm machinery, irrigation systems, and pest/disease control methods.
• Excellent leadership, team management, and communication skills.
• Proficiency in financial management, budgeting, and cost control.
• Ability to work under pressure and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.
• Valid driver's license for frequent site visits within the Tembisa region.
• Knowledge of local labor laws and agricultural best practices is essential.
