Job summary

The Met Office offers a 12-month Year in Industry placement starting July 2027, focusing on Agentic AI for Weather and Climate Model Development. The role is full-time (37 hours) with hybrid office/home working and weekly office attendance.

You’ll join the Dynamics Research team to prototype AI-enabled modelling and contribute to impactful, life-saving weather research. Applicants should be studying a mathematical or physical science degree with an industrial placement.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a degree in a mathematical or physical science with an industrial placement year.
• Interest in AI/ML and willingness to develop skills in this area.
• Strong analytical problem-solving skills and ability to work independently on scientific challenges.

Responsibilities

• Develop a prototype hybrid physical-machine learning model.
• Assist with training, testing and evaluating the integrated model using Agentic AI tools.
• Collaborate with experts to ensure robustness and quality assurance of AI developments.
