Job summary

Otley Street Community Nursery School in Skipton is seeking an Advanced Teaching Assistant to join our nursery team. You will work closely with teachers to support children’s learning through high-quality interactions, targeted interventions, and play-based activities.

The role requires a Level 3 qualification, EYFS knowledge, and experience in early years, with a focus on observation, assessment, and inclusive practice.

Qualifications

• A Level 3 qualification in Early Years, Childcare, or Supporting Teaching and Learning.
• Experience in an early year or nursery setting.
• Secure understanding of the EYFS framework.
• Knowledge of child development and early learning strategies.
• Experience of observing, assessing and recording progress.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Act as a Key Person for a group of children.
• Support planning, delivery and evaluation of EYFS learning.
• Lead targeted interventions and small-group activities.
• Observe, assess and record children's learning.
• Support communication and language development.
• Collaborate with staff, parents and external agencies.
• Support children with SEND and adapt provision.
• Promote positive behaviour and inclusion.
• Maintain a safe, stimulating learning environment.

Otley Street Community Nursery School is looking to appoint a skilled, enthusiastic, and caring Advanced Teaching Assistant to join our dedicated nursery team. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a high-quality early year setting where children are encouraged to develop confidence, curiosity, independence, and a lifelong love of learning.

The successful candidate will work closely with teachers and colleagues to support children’s learning and development through high-quality interactions, targeted interventions, and play-based learning opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

• Act as a Key Person for a group of children, building strong relationships with children and their families.
• Support the planning, delivery, and evaluation of learning experiences in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
• Lead targeted interventions and small-group activities to support children’s progress and development.
• Observe, assess, and record children’s learning, contributing to learning journals and assessment processes.
• Support children’s communication and language development through highquality interactions and purposeful play.
• Work collaboratively with staff, parents, carers, and external agencies to ensure the best outcomes for children.
• Support children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), adapting provision where appropriate.
• Promote positive behaviour, emotional wellbeing, and inclusion for all children.
• Help maintain an engaging, safe, and stimulating learning environment both indoors and outdoors.
• Contribute to safeguarding, health and safety, and welfare procedures across the nursery.

The Successful Candidate Will Have

• A relevant Level 3 qualification in Early Years, Childcare, or Supporting Teaching and Learning. A commitment to further training.
• Experience of working within an early year or nursery setting.
• A secure understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework.
• Knowledge of child development and effective strategies to support early learning.
• Experience of observing, assessing, and recording children’s progress.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.li>
• The ability to build positive relationships with children, families, and colleagues.
• A commitment to inclusive practice and supporting children with additional needs.
• A positive, proactive, and reflective approach to their work.
